Exams
• FE exam is generally your first step in the
process to becoming a professional licensed
engineer (P.E.).

• For graduates who got engineering degree from


ABET accredited program.

• The FE exam is a computer-based exam


administered year-round in testing windows
at NCEES-approved Pearson VUE test centers.

• The exam appointment time is 6 hours long and


includes
1. Nondisclosure agreement (2 minutes)
2. Tutorial (8 minutes)
3. Exam (5 hours and 20 minutes)
4. Scheduled break (25 minutes)
Why should the FE Exam be taken?

• Right to publicly represent yourself as an engineer


• Opportunity to become PE.
• Recognition that you have the necessary academic and
professional experience to practice in the engineering
profession
• Added value to you in the job market.
• Get Personal accreditation for working abroad.

Who do not pass
• NCEES provides all examinees who do not pass with a
diagnostic report.
• The report shows the examinee’s performance in terms
of a scaled score from 0–15.
• The examinee’s relative performance in each knowledge
area compared to the average performance of the
passing examinees.
Passing Scores
• NCEES does not release its minimum passing scores.
• Your score will be psychometrically adjusted.
• Passing scores have been between 50-70% in the past.
• No penalty for guessing. Make sure to respond to every
question.

Equality and Equity
Equating
• Test takers are assured fairness when form difficulty
varies by a statistical process called equating.
• Equating procedures measure the difficulty of each exam
form and adjust the passing score as needed so that the
same level of candidate performance is reflected in the
passing score regardless of the difficulty of the form
Equating
• Test takers who happen to take the slightly more difficult
exam form are not penalized.
• Likewise, candidates who take the slightly easier exam
form are not given an advantage.

Registration for FE exam
• To register for the exam students will need to create an
account through the NCEES website
(https://account.ncees.org/login).

• NCEES computer-based FE exams are offered in testing


windows throughout the year

• All exam fees are payable directly to NCEES during the


registration process. NCEES accepts payments online via
MasterCard and VISA. The FE exam fee is $250.
