Naghaz

Well as I compile the battle reports and pictures from our warhammer fantasy campaign featuring Kadrin Drakk and
leading up to a grand defense of her Hold I thought I would submit one of the mini-games within the campaign, a
Mordheim matchup for the Middle Bridge. This write-up is posted a few places so if you've seen it before sorry for the
rehash but I thought it would be a nice bit of action for the rest of the dwarves. So pull up a tankard of ale, and enjoy
the story!

Here we have a nice Middle Bridge Battle Rep done quick and easy with lots of pictures and very few details I
didnt take notes during the battle largely due to my 19 month old son running about the game room trying to
impersonate Doodlebops break dancing and waving a fake sword about in hopes of smashing some of dads
precious figurines. The game was fast and violent however which is of course the main reason we play Mordheim!

Middle Bridge is a fantastic scenario as it adds the unique challenge of NPC trolls running about causing all sorts of
havoc. These nasty buggers have increased stats and the entire board has Heavy Fog which effectively removes
ranged fire from the scenario. We rolled three Trolls for this game and decided to use a Scatter+D6 to decide their
movement after placement near or on the bridge. Once a troll was within charge range it would automatically charge
which helped make things random yet effective.

The two warbands taking part in this game are the Dwarves of Kadrin Drakk, and the Hands of Fate Possessed
Warband. Note that due to the lack of notes on this one, the report will be more of a short recap of each turn
alongside a picture showing the current layout. Future installments will have more detail and even discuss various
after battle reporting and campaign updates. For now I wanted to keep it simple and at least produce something
pretty to look at.

Overall view of the Table:

Trolls atop the Bridge snarl in anticipation of battle:

So then, onto the game. The Dwarves of Kadrin Drakk have entered the Damned City looking for a lost artifact from
their ancient hold. It was last known to be exhibited deep within the Warriors Guild of the city. Kadrin Drakk is an
ancient and proud clan, and a few veteran warriors from various families volunteered immediately to help recover the
Clans heirloom. Here you see the lot of them lined up before the entrance to the once grand bridge.

Clan Kadrin Drakks finest, or at least those sober enough to rally towards the bridge:

The Hands of Fate on the other hand, are in Mordheim for far more nefarious reasons. The beckon call of the
Shadowlord has brought this bunch together, and after a series of games they are looking the part of a nasty bunch of
troublemakers. With a Possessed who can charge 18 with four attacks at Strength 5, Magister Menahem displayed a
rare smile upon entering the Middle Bridge area, a smile that widened considerably when the fog rolled in

The Possessed Warband Hands of Fate pose atop the southern ramparts:

Setup went to the Possessed who decided to take the Northwestern quadrant of the map. Splaying out in three main
directions the group looked to engage a Troll early on while two hunt groups moved on to cutoff the dwarves and one
to take the bridge. The Possessed creature lovingly named Naghaz the Destroyer clicked his giant claw back and
prepared to charge a dimwitted Troll shambling forth from under the bridge. Magister Menahem and two henchmen
followed. A make-shift bridge consisting of old planks from the warf had been strung across the river further to the
west of the main bridge. It is here that Beastmen Hero Sathrak and Mutant Shadevar led a small group of Henchmen
across the water in hopes of stranding some Dwarves between the other trolls. To the North, a small group led by
Mutant Malos move towards the main bridge.

The Hands of Fate divide to conquer as they setup:

The Dwarven setup was a bit less offensive as the well armed and armored Dwarves considered how best to win the
day without suffering heavy casualties. The dense fog truly hampered their standard strategies whereby ace
quarrelers and well time pistol shots can bring down opponents long before they reach the dwarven lines. With two
Trolls atop the bridge and two below the Dwarves chose a defensive strategy at first, preparing to send a small but
elite unit beneath the bridge while the main force moved along to secure the top.

The dwarves of Kadrin Drakk setup with a cautious offense by sending two brave souls under the
bridge while the main force marches onward:

Turn 1

Dwarves

First turn went to the Dwarves and they took advantage of their luck by spreading out quickly. An Engineer and his
lad move quickly forward along the river bank, edging onto a partially sunken boat lodged against the middle of the
Bridge support. The Engineer moves onto the ship, shouting a challenge to the unwary Troll in front of him.
Meanwhile the main group of Kadrin Drakk moved forward towards the main bridge while two Crossbow wielding

sharpshooters scrambled up an ancient set of stairs to take defensive position over the first rampart.

Turn 1 finds the Dwarves moving off into a more defensive posture with their main force, a sort of
hurry up and wait tactic that would be suicidal for warbands less tough:

Possessed

The Possessed know nothing of patience and remind everyone of it in Turn 1. Possessed Creature Naghaz
immediately charged the first Troll wandering under the bridge. Behind him Magister Menahem scrambles to keep
up hoping to invoke a hand of fate on the behemoth prior to its challenge. Some henchmen slither along as well to
add spears and maces to the battle. Along the northern slope, a contingent of the hand moves on towards the bridge
and begins scrambling over the blocks preparing to engage yet another Troll. Leaping from one broken dock to the

next, Beastman Sathrak leads his group to the opposite shoreline and begins marching east. A quick magic phase
finds the shroud of the Shadowlord as Magister Menahem imbues his Possessed with +1 Weapon Skill. Taking
advantage of his newfound abilities, the angry creature immediately assails the Troll with attacks landing four and
wounding with three! A brilliant round for the Possessed. In response the angry Troll roars back with four attacks of
his own. Sadly the dimwitted creature could not land a single blow due largely to the enchanted skills granted by the
magister.

Naghaz the Possessed, now imbued with magical skill, charges headlong into combat with the mighty
Troll tearing into it with unrivaled fury:

Trolls

The Trolls being rather ignorant on their own, only charge obvious targets in range, as such the only troll ready to do
battle was already engaged. Thus it fell on scatter dice and a D6 to decide where the other Trolls were headed. The
one atop the bridge to the far North shambled closer to the Possessed group climbing the wall while the Troll atop the
south end the bridge shambled over to the edge of the bridge, and dove off with only its regeneration saving it from
the two wounds sustained during the swan-dive. Down below the lone troll failed its Stupidity check and decided to
drool unceremoniously as Dwarves tip toed their way across the shoreline. Combat ensued with the Possessed
causing three additional wounds on the Troll knocking him down and stunning him right!? Wrong! Regeneration saw
two of those wounds off leaving the creature only knocked down and still dangerous though thankfully without
reprisal this round.

Turn 2

Dwarves

The boys of Kadrin Drakk decided it was time to engage! Having gotten lucky with a Troll going stupid the Engineer
and his lad decided not to taunt fate any further and launched themselves into an attack on the beast! Besides its
not just the Trollslayers who get all the fun and now with a second troll landing surprisingly from behind it was
definitely time to engage! On the bridge top the Dwarves moved down the center of the bridge, cursing their luck as
the juicy target of a Troll wandered off the edge of the bridge. Spotting a bit of rope attached to a rampart, the
Trollslayers decided to rush off in that direction hoping to fling themselves down atop their target and get into the
thick of things. The rest of the warhost moved forward down the center of the bridge, watching the Possessed gang
ahead of them due battle with their own troll. The two quarrelers atop the guard post tried to draw a bead on the
beast that tumbled over the edge but the thick fog enveloped them reducing their sight to a few feet. Wary of injuring
one of their brethren, they chose to sit tight and wait for the fog to part. Down in the water, the Engineer and his lad
launched into combat. The Engineer scored a hit on the Troll and a wound however the terrible creatures cut closed
almost as quickly as it scored! The lad flailed his attempt at striking the beast and was knocked down in return for his
efforts. The Engineer was struck hard as well, but his thick, well built dwarven armor staved off any serious injury.

Two brave Dwarves decide to take a bite out of crime launching into an attack on the troll without the
close support of their clan!

Possessed

Seeing that the Troll was injured badly the Magister ordered his underlings into position to quickly see off the
wretched beast! Two strong, mace wielding crazies join the fray hoping to send the river troll off to the abyss. To the
north, Mutant Maloss group having reached the top of the bridge decided to charge the beast in front of them,
hoping the combined arms of henchmen as well as his own two mutated arms, would give enough of a fight to end the
creatures life before any terrible casualties are sustained. On the opposite edge of the river, Beastman Sathrak

http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/14940-battle-for-middle-bridge/ 12/24
3/25/2018 Battle For Middle Bridge - Battlegrounds - Bugmans Brewery - The Home for all Warhammer Dwarf Fans

continued to lead his group towards the bridge however after hearing the heavily armored footsteps of many dwarves
atop it, he chose instead to move underneath the bridge hoping to cut off the stunties battling below and pick them
off one at a time! The two henchmen having just charged into the Troll did their best to end its life. Both scored hits
however only one was strong enough to wound. The Troll fell to the water, knocked down! Smelling death, the
Possessed launched into a furious assault on the River Troll scoring two wounds one of which regenerated
immediately, the other however was all it took to end the creatures life! Atop the bridge Mutant Malos and his
group began combat in earnest against yet another slimey Troll. Malos having four attacks of his own, alongside two
Henchmen with two attacks each and a Darksoul carrying two hand weapons, it was going to be a tough day for the
troll. A flurry of attacks later, the troll had one wound left and was not real happy about it. Returning his attack the
troll knocked down the Darksoul and wounded the Mutant. All in all a nice round for the Possessed.

A Possessed wargroup led by the indomitable Mutant Shadevar launches an attack on the lone troll
atop the bridge. To the south the Dwarves split up with Trollslayers moving to a rope in hopes of
following their troll target to the water while the rest approach the melee carefully

Trolls

The last unengaged Troll makes his stupidity check but is outside of charge range by just under an inch! As such he
scrambles forward hoping to engage the courageous Dwarven Engineer and his lad in the following turn. Atop the
bridge the knocked down Troll stands up only to be knocked down yet again! A mighty blow from the Mutant sends
the beast off to its maker. The troll engaged with the Dwarves downs the lad with a stunning blow to the head and
then turns its ire to the Engineer. Two blows bounce harmlessly off the tough dwarven armor.

Turn 3

Dwarves

The clansman recovered from his stunning blow but still lay upon the splintered wood of the fallen boat, dazed and
injured. The Engineer shouted for him to crawl back, so as to not get killed by the Troll. Shuffling a bit, the wounded
clansman put a bit of distance between himself and the angry beast. The Engineer shifted a bit and planted his feet
deep into the rotted wood preparing for a real fight. From up above them, the Dwarven Noble leading two slayers
shouted a warcry and skimmed down the rope landing just beside a Troll preparing to charge into the defenseless
clansman. Both Trollslayers felt like jumping off the edge of the bridge to get into combat but realized how dangerous
a bad landing would be with two trolls, and now a host of ugly possessed warband members lurking in the shadows.
They chose to climb down carefully, making it impossible for them to launch into combat. The other Nobles and
Clansmen atop the bridge moved forward cautiously, preparing for a serious combat with the incoming Mutant and
his group of underlings. Atop the rampart, both beardlings shifted their stance in response to some loud noise below.
They could hear something large approaching them, but the fog still inhibited their vision. Preparing for the worse,
both steadied their crossbows at the doorway to the east. A lone beardling waiting atop the coastal cliff, made his way
down to the water, hoping the fog would part long enough for him to provide some level of cover to his brothers as his
high vantage allowed him to see the impending pincher trap of the Possessed warband. The engineer was starting to
understand his battle with the Troll was likely to go long, and battles of attrition with such a large monster were
generally peric. Regardless he swung out wide and hard with his axe, landing a powerful blow that would have cut
cleanly thru any lesser creature. The grievous wound closed before his eyes however, and the great creature returned
the favor with a gut full of vile acid. His armor had saved him once more, but at what a cost! Beside the Engineer the
noble began combat in earnest and two well time strikes landed upon the troll. The first stuck high and healed
immediately but the second landed perfectly upon the bone, and the Troll yelped in pain. Raining a series of clawed
attacks upon the Noble non struck home and the Dwarves prepared for a good old fashion melee!

Possessed

Under the bridge Naghaz the Destroyer decided to make a run for the southern coast line, hoping to rush up and
cause some havoc on the two isolated dwarves fiddling with their crossbows atop the ruined rampart. Magister
Menahem pushes forward through the river water in hopes of catching up with the Beastman and his group which

3/25/2018 Battle For Middle Bridge - Battlegrounds - Bugmans Brewery - The Home for all Warhammer Dwarf Fans

skulked carefully along the southern tunnel, waiting for the impending dwarf reinforcements to land. In the
northern tunnel, two heavily armored henchmen began pushing through the waist deep water, slowly making their
own way towards the Dwarven position. With a dark incantation Magister Menahems shoulders burst open and
dark, spectral wings twisted forth lifting him from the water and propelling him up the coastal wall near Naghaz the
Destroyer. Atop the bridge, Mutant Malos and his group having just dispatched a Troll, took up positions along a
makeshift column of cover, preparing for the Dwarven assault. The trap was just about sprung and soon they would
all be feasting on the bones of Dwarves!

Naghaz the Destroyer scrambles up the ravine while Magister Menahem prepares to sprout wings.
Note the two are moving so quickly their images are a blur!

Trolls

The Dwarves just would not go away! No matter how many blows were struck against them, the tough little
humanoids would not go down! Both the Noble and the Engineer struck out against the trolls and landed blows that
either failed to penetrate the creatures tough skin or caused wounds that were unceremoniously healed almost
immediately. In response, the trolls fought with fervor, apparently aware of the impending slayers shimming down
the rope. A might blow struck the noble hard, sending him to the ground, the Engineer also took a mighty shot
though his shield saved him the brunt of it. Unfortunately the shield was rent useless by the mighty blow.

The Dwarves set their feet and do battle while reinforcements arrive. Meanwhile Possessed warband
members close in on the ensuing melee

Well, it should be... if I am not mistaken, this is Aly Morrison's warband of Possessed... grin.png I thought I
recognised those hand motifs and the conversions.

Both warbands are amazingly painted, and converted in the Possessed case, and the terrain is indeed out of this
world! Looks like the warband got rebased from last time I looked upon them back when they were featured in WD
around the time of Mordheims release. They are on the round bases with skull piles now- cool.

I am willing to bet a keg of Bugmans finest that we were treated to a glimpse of Aly's gaming pieces, and I have always
thought very highly of Aly's work indeed.

Either way, break open the keg- this is a magnificent Mordheim batle rep!

Cheers!

Cheers to all! The Possessed warband above is actually modeled in the likeness of Aly's but is not the original. In fact
ours bears a few noted differences. Aly's I believe were also red and brown if memory serves me. The warband above
was painted and converted by Jason Richards. Regardless however you have a good eye, Aly's force featured in WD
and Town Cryer was in fact the motivation behind my own 'Hands of Fate'.

The terrain was built by Magnus Erikson, an absolutely gifted terrain maker (and painter) who's imagination knows
few boundries. Magnus promises his website is under construction and once completed I'll be certain to post a link
here so all of you can gander at the many other wonders he's created.

I was hoping to finish off the batrep today but noted my camera battery is dead and as such no luck in getting
pictures over to the site. I'll try to update it next week however, once I return from Las Vegas (a dwarf has to play
every now and again).

Be well all!

The Dammaz Kronik

Well Naghaz, I guess I owe you a keg then.

Jason did a fantastic job making the warband, and it resembles Aly's so closely, I honestly couldnt tell the difference
aside form the few close ups and looking back at my old TC/WD issues and checking reference on models after you
said they werent his. I also noted the possessed model is not the same, and you have a few others of completely
original design as well. Plus like I noted before, the basing is quite different.

A link to Magnus' site when its up and running would be great- that guy is off his rocker on talent! This bridge piece is
one of the best terrain themed boards i have seen to date, and it puts my own Mordheim terrain (which is considered
very good) to shame. I may have to post a few shots of our own ongoing Mordheim leagues in the Mordheim/BB
section sometime, we still play it every week, and my current warband is my possessed, although I also run Dwarves,

Skaven, and a sisters of sigmar band, and am working on a fun little Witch Hunters band as a pirates theme for the
next league.

I won the last league with my Dwarves, so switched it up to the nefarious Kabal Diapholos this league, which is led by
my depraved magister Diapholos himself, and features Krun' Tch, a Possessed with S5, sprint, mighty blow (3 S6 and
1 S7!! claw attacks), Resislient, and a great claw of his own thumbsup.png so i can certainly avow to your mighty
possessed's power and destructive capabilities at the stats you mentioned- so much fun to charge in at an obscene
rate of speed, and rend limb from limb anything standing before him! He attracts so much missile fire its funny- once
or twice he has fallen to bolts and arrows, so i rarely charge him his full 15" unsupported anymore, since he always
kills whatever he hits, then is a sitting duck for every bow/xbow on the field rolleyes.gif

Mordheim is so fun! Especially when its played on the type of terrain, and with the kind of model quality you have
displayed here!

Now onto drinking that keg.

Cheers!
