Solomon Power

 Vertically integrated
 Responsible for generation, transmission, distribution, retail
and regulatory matters
 Operations in Honiara and 11 outstations
 Present in all Provinces except Rendell & Bellona
Key Challenges
 Increasing the accessibility
 Increasing affordability
Number of Customers
 Presently Solomon Power has 17,200 customers
 Solomon Power needs to increase this to 30,000 by 2021
 This will reduce fixed cost per customer
 This will reduce tariffs
Accessibility- present situation

 Only 70% of the population has access to electricity in Honiara


 Only 16% of the population has access to electricity in Solomon

Key challenges for Renewables
 Acquisition of land- complicated, time consuming
 Lack of infrastructure (wharfs, piers, roads etc.)
 Erratic/lack of shipping services
 Lack of air services
 Lifecycle of a Hybrid project is more than 2.5 years
