Happy New Year to all our
Amped4Life supporters and friends
in April 2018. What a summer we
have had with extremes of weather,
sun and cyclones. A bit crazy but
grateful we were able to take some
time with family and friends over
the break.

Christmas 2017 was a family affair with
all of our kids and our grandchildren
joining us at Karen’s Mums place in
Kawerau. The lunchtime feed was
delicious with left overs aplenty. Much
laughter and jesting was had by all. By
late afternoon we made our way back
to Tauranga for a relaxing evening.
The family are all in good health. Seth
has enjoyed his first Term back in Yr.10
at Tauranga Boys College. He had
a glowing report which we were all
thrilled with
Seth has continued in term 1 with Judo
but has advised me he will probably
wind it up soon as he has taken up
another hobby. Seth has been actively
involved with the Tauranga Airsoft Club
where they go to TECT Park in Pyes Pa
and play war games with BB guns. He
has purchased a pistol and rifle for the
games and has loved the comradery of
older members. He is doing well.
Ella is now in Yr. 9 [That’s 3rd Form]
at Bethlehem College and has settled
in quite well. She stopped doing judo
and instead is back at Dance Avenue
where she has picked up another

contemporary style dance class on
a Wednesday. She lights up a room
when she is living out her passion. You
inspire me Ella.
Karen continues to work at Tauranga
hospital as a health care assistant
as a flexi. She is hoping to take on a
fulltime shift next year once the kids
get a little more independent. She
continues to support me in my role
with Amped4Life and releases me to
go off and do our work all over the
country. I so appreciate her flexibility
in allowing me freedom to come and
go as work demands it. You are a
legend honey.
2018 has been full on with 26
appointments booked and
completed before the end of Term 1.
Substance abuse and addiction is an
escalating problem and Amped4Life
continues to offer programs and
seminars that add value to Schools,
community and Industry. I am
passionate about continuing our life-
giving message to any and all that
require our services.
M.A.G.S- Mount Albert Bay Pathways
Grammar School I was asked to come and share with
the students from Bay pathways. Bay
Yr. 13 Methamphetamine Module
Pathways is working with youth in the
Level 3 & Yr. 10- “I Have a Dream”
development of knowledge, furthering

education and opening pathways
I have had the ongoing privilege for more opportunities. Alternative
of working alongside Jess and Education includes youth 13 – 15 yrs.
Scott from Mount Albert Grammar who have been referred from local
School, delivering modules to High Schools and supports them to
both the Yr. 13 health classes on a continue their school education in
methamphetamine specific topic. I the NZ Curriculum in a supported

Waiku High School
A huge Shout out to Meg Wilson for
organising Amped4Life to present
a Yr. 13 Module on the dangers of
methamphetamine and its effects.
We present an informative and
educational perspective on this
insidious and pernicious drug called
“P”. The students are passionate
about learning and engaged with the
content of the delivery. Unfortunately,
methamphetamine has a foothold in
New Zealand and Amped4Life desires
to bring solutions and resources to
raise awareness to its audience.

Second Assembly-
Yr. 10- “Marijuana,
Synthetic and party
Pills”
With an increased prevalence of
marijuana use across society, coupled
with a surge in synthetics and party
pills flowing into our communities, I
was asked to deliver an educational
presentation on the impact of
marijuana and legal highs for the yr.
10 students The presentation worked
really well and the students engaged
with mature and thoughtful response
and questioning. This confirms to
me the on-going impact that the
Amped4Life programs continue to
have in local schools throughout New
Zealand
Teaching in an assembly format
for more in-depth information can
be challenging and so we have
developed a fresh presentation which
is interesting and engaging. We look
forward to an ongoing relationship
with this rural High School.

 Katikati Probus Club
Amped4Life loves taking our message
to inspiring people of all age groups.
We have spoken at Katikati and
Omokoroa Probus Clubs to share a
message which informs the public
about substance abuse, current
trends, and the work that Amped4Life
continue to offer in the community.
Probus Clubs are clubs for retired or
semi-retired business or professional
people. The movement operates
worldwide. We are always warmly
received at any Probus Events around
the WBOP. Probus Club meetings
normally consist of a lunch followed
by a guest speaker, although some
clubs are run on a more informal
basis. Many engage in sporting
tournaments, and have groups for
special interests within the club. They
enjoy regular outings and holidays, at
home and abroad. Probus clubs are
local to towns and districts

Summerhill Youth
Camp
A big thanks to Garth and Judy
Collings for their continued
collaboration with Summerhill youth
Academy and Amped4Life bringing
life skills and Drug Awareness to a
small group of approx. 25-30 youth.
Summerhill A1 Youth Academy is set in
the Welcome Bay hills in the Western
Bay of Plenty. The Academy course
is full of fundamental life skills that
are vital for success in and out of the
school class room.
When push comes to shove `real
life’ skills often take a back seat to
academics.
The Academy has in its content words
of wisdom for today’s young adults
presented at a unique location with
passion and variety. It’s a blueprint for
building leadership skills, by knowing
how to get the life they want and to
motivate themselves to reach their
full potential. It is always a privilege to
work alongside Garth and these young
people who have chosen to go the
extra mile in their future goal setting
and development

so much hatred towards her that I make stupid
choices. Living around drug abuse from the time I
was born until I was 10, I still remember absolutely
everything.. Today u helped me realise something
but that hatred towards her will not change l.

There can be a lot of challenges and bad thing
happen in life but you can make different choices
for your future. You don’t have to repeat the same
mistakes. There is always redemption. I thought
this quote was really good: A wise man learns
from his mistakes but a fool repeats them. It’s
cool the way you used your life as an example. It
made it real and we knew that you had really been
there.

Hey Pat, thank you so much for opening my eyes
to the effects that drugs really have on me. I’ve
personally tried marijuana and I absolutely hate
it. My brother has tried nearly every drug under
the sun and it’s changed him so much where I
don’t even recognize him. He destroyed my family
so much to the point we don’t sleep and we don’t
stop stressing. This has been happening for about
3 years now and you’ve given that slight bit more
motivation. I’d just like to thank you for coming in
and inspiring me.
