Safari Montage: Audio and Video Enhancement for the classroom
Abstract
Safari Montage is an audio and video program that is used to record classrooms as well as access
videos. “Safari Montage offers an exceptional Learning Object Repository for K-12, pre-stocked
with the best educational videos available and refined software for managing digital resources
created by students, teachers and school districts”(Safari Montage). Teachers have access to the
program, Safari Montage, through the district website as well as an icon on their desktop. Safari
can be accessed at home as well. This program allows the teacher to aide in teaching through
several different applications. Teachers need to know the complete uses for the program to
utilyze it in the classroom. The goals of the project are for teachers to be able to attend the
training, use the program, and access all of the different components of the program. Teachers
will access the program on their county issued laptops and be taken through the program by the
instructor. They will master positioning the cameras to best capture their classroom, using
cameras to create recordings, and accessing videos as well as aides for those videos. Teachers
will also learn how to edit videos and share them. These videos can be used as teaching aides, as
online remediation, or as evidence if needed in the event of a negative situation taking place in
the classroom. The expectation following this training is that every teacher in attendance will
know how to use this program to the full extent of its ability.

Description of Program
The East Metro Atlanta School System is requesting a grant to help fund the professional
development for teachers in order to learn to use the software program, Safari Montage. Each
classroom is equipped with a camera system and an audio enhancement system. The cameras and
recordings are controlled with Safari Montage. The program allows repositioning of the cameras,
recording of classes, ability to edit and share recordings, and can be used to protect both the
students and the teachers.
This program also has pre-loaded channels and videos that can be used in the classroom. Some
videos come with quizzes. These are tools the teachers can use in their classroom if they know
how to access it. We are requesting a grant amount of $2,400 in order to complete this training
for up to 45 participants.

Statement of Need
Currently, when polled, 42 of 107 teachers responded that they feel comfortable with Safari
Montage. 27 responded that they know how to record, but not share. 18 say they are
uncomfortable with all aspects of Safari Montage, and 20 did not respond. This means that at the
least, 45 teachers need more training on the software.

Plan for Implementation

We wish to provide this training in two sessions. One session will be in the afternoon and the
next will take place in the evening. Teachers will have the choice of which session they want to

1
go to. The training will take place in a staff development designated classroom space that has
room for 25 participants. A stipend of $50 dollars will be offered for participants, up to 45
participants. The instructor will work four hours at a rate of $35 dollars per hour, equalling a
payment of $140 dollars. Participants will receive a ten page packet that includes screen shot
instructions of the goals we wish the teachers to master. Participants must bring their county-
issued laptop to the training. There are outlets for charging and wifi in the staff development
classroom.

Goals We Desire to Reach

1. We will have 100% attendance at the training by offering two days to choose from.
2. Teachers will learn to control the cameras using Safari Montage by the end of the
training.
3. Teachers will learn to edit and share recordings by the end of the training.
4. Teachers will be able to access quizzes and aides that go along with pre-recorded
material.

Evaluation of Success:
We will poll the teachers following the training. We hope to have teacher responses to increase
to no less than 85 of the 107 responding that they are comfortable with all aspects of the Safari
Montage program.

Following the poll, administrators will advise department heads to have their department
members each show a video of their classroom being recorded to show that they have learned
how to use the program, Safari Montage, to improve their teaching and their students’ success
rates. Department heads will report back to administration about the successes or failures as well
as relay any feedback the teachers offer up during the process. This should take place within one
month of the initial training.
