Decree
Pertaining to the Holiday

- With reference to Law on Government No. 04/NA, dated 8th November 2016;
- With reference to Law Civil-servant No. 74/NA, dated 18th December 2015;
- With reference Labor Law No. 43/NA, dated 24th December 2013;
- With reference to Proposal Letter No. 337/GO, dated 16th November 2017 Ministry of
Home Affairs.

The Government issued decree

Article 01: Purpose

This decree defined the holiday as the reference for implementation with unanimously for
all country with state organization, Lao Front for National Construction, Mass Organization at
central and local levels, representative of Laos which are in foreign countries, International
Organization, Society Organization, State Enterprise, Private Enterprise of Lao and Expat in Lao
PDR.

Article 02: Holiday

Holiday is the day to stop work of government, civil servant, soldier, police and worker
which include weekly holiday, Public Holiday and compensate holiday.

Article 03: Explanation

Wording in this decree has the meaning as following:
1. Weekly holiday means Saturdays and Sundays;
2. Public Holiday means the Government approve for stop work in the working days;
3. Compensate day means the day, which will compensate for public holiday that are on
Saturday and Sunday.

Article 04: The Public Holiday

The public holidays are as following:
- 1st January (International New Year);
- 8th March (International Women Day);
- Lao New Year (refers the calendar of each year);
- 1st May (International Worker Day);
- 2nd December (Lao National Day).
 For the other important days of organization and sections, to assign Ministries,
Organization, relevant sections at central and local levels to arrange the event by meeting
or activities which cooperate with local people.

Article 05: Implementation

Prime Minister’s Office issued Official Notice for the compensate holiday.
Prime Minister’s Office disseminate, instruct, monitor the implementation this decree.
Ministries, Organization equivalent ministries, state – party organization, Lao Front for
National Construction, Mass Organization central and local levels, representative of Laos which
are in foreign countries, International Organizations, Society Organization, State Enterprise and
Private Enterprise of Lao and Expat which are in Lao PDR and all Lao Ethnic groups to strictly
acknowledge of this decree.

Article 06: Effectiveness

This decree will come into effect from the date of its signature and after official post on
gazette within 15 days.
