NOTES
Traditional Worship
You may wonder why we are still singing some Easter
hymns. Easter was two weeks ago! In the early years of the
Church, they celebrated the resurrection a full fifty days.
Perhaps they had a better perspective on the resurrection
of Jesus than we do. Think about it: the Messiah had
been prophesied for several thousand years, since the
time of Adam and Eve. Jesus had come and lived among
them. They had talked with Him and come to believe in
Him, then He died, crushing all their hopes and beliefs
in Him. Perhaps they were duped. Then He rose from the
dead and walked among them for forty days before they
watched Him ascend from the earth into the clouds. Ten
days later the Holy Spirit descended upon the believers in
power...and we celebrate the resurrection with one day?
The resurrection of the Messiah not only brought eternal
life to believers. That is a small part of the ramification
of the event. His victory over sin, death, and evil brought
re-creation to the entire created order. Everything in
existence is recreated with a new and eternal existence.
Everything in the universe seen and unseen is restored...
and we celebrate Easter one day? There was creation, “In
the beginning God created…” and there is recreation “He
is not here. He has risen!” The King of kings is coming
again. -Dr. Dan Sharp
