FOUNDATIONS (1, 2)
To act as a professional inheritor, critic and interpreter of knowledge or culture when teaching students.
FEATURES
• Situates the discipline's basic benchmarks and points of understanding (concepts, postulates and methods) in order to
facilitate significant, in‐depth learning by students.
• Adopts a critical approach to the subject matter.
• Establishes links between the secondary culture set out in the program and the secondary culture of the students.
• Transforms the classroom into a cultural base open to a range of different viewpoints within a common space.
• Casts a critical look at his or her own origins, cultural practices and social role.
LEVEL OF MASTERY
By the end of his or her initial training, the student teacher should be able to:
• understand the subject‐specific and program specific knowledge to be taught, so as to be able to promote the creation of
meaningful links by the students;
• exhibit a critical understanding of his or her cultural development and be aware of its potential and limitations;
• exhibit a critical understanding of the knowledge to be taught, so as to promote the creation of meaningful links by the
students;
• Establish links with the students' culture in the proposed learning activities.

a critical approach toward the task at hand whenever I was given the opportunity to work with
students,
either one on one or in a group.!!
-Understanding
the effect of culture and community on the school, and on the students.!!
-Using
my own culture and cultural understandings as a starting point for connecting the views expressed
students and in the classroom, as well as outside of the classroom setting in watching students'

interactions

• Bases the selection and content of teaching sequences on data drawn from recent didactical and pedagogical

-Establishing
daily routines prior to the days lesson such as belle work, silent reading, or pre-activites for
the
lesson!
-Maintaining such routines throughout the entire field experience in order to have students become aware
of the tasks which must be performed without reminder!
-Anticipating any problems or questions which may arise throughout the lesson and being prepared for
such in the best way possible.!
-Understanding
that not ever problem or question can be expected or anticipated and therefore being
capable
and prepared to find an answer or solution on the spot.!
- Identifiying organizational problems such as group work or time management during lessons and being
able to adjust these accordingly throughout the lesson.!
-Identifying inappropriate behaviours and provided reprimands for such. For example, during group work
students were reminded to stay on task and keep the volume low, however, if this was not respected
students
were asked to separate and work individually and silently. !
-Keeping
up with reprimands for inappripriate behavior in order to maintain a routine for the class.

How have I developed this competency during this course or professional seminar/field experience?

-Previously
working closely with child care workers and support staff to faciliate learning for students with
codes
or IEP's!
-Heavily involved in resource programs and one-on-one aid for individual students!
-Working
with colleagues on IEPs and staff meetings for adjustments needed for students!
-During
FE4, students were not on IEPs or coded, however this does not mean that the presence of
learning difficulties is non-existant!
-Modifying
tasks for students who desmonstate difficulties (more time, different options for assignments),
and
learning to teach a very diverse set of students. !
-When
developing my lessons, I plan the majority of my lessons considering the learning needs that are
within the classroom. !
-Differntiation for students who are at different levels!
-Guidance and support to individual students and reminding them to focus or reformulating information
for
them!
- Providing adaptations and accommodations and inclusivity in every class

-Students
with individual iPads throughout this stage therefore being able to develop a deeper
understanding
about the advantages and disadvantages of this competency. !
-Integrating
iPad use into nearly every lesson, as well as the Smart Board for lesson planning!
-Being
able to use interactive learning on the iPads for tests and quizzes such as FlipQuiz, Quizziz, and
Kahoot.!
-This was new and interesting, and also keeps students of a very technological generation engaged and
participating
in class!
- This also presents a few problems which has alllowed me to learn to prepare and navigate with
technology
in the classroom!
-I must set reminders to students not to use technology without permission, and must also monitor their
use of ICT in the classroom.

-Collaborating
with school staff in projects and educational services, such as resource programs, after
school
clubs, tutoring, and mentoring, and supervision of activities, under the regulations and
responsibility
of the school.!!
-Supporting and supervising students involved in student council, variety/talent show, and administrative
duties and structures within the school.!!
-Involvement
in tutorials and availabilities several times throughout the field experience, while keeping a
professional
space as an aid and student teacher and not as a permanent qualified educator.!!
-Contributing
to an educational objective and club as created and maintained by the school during the
limited period of field experience.!
-Being present at student functions and showing support for students and colleagues whohave organized
such functions!
-Communicating
with parents in a professional manner through e-mails or in person and provided a
sense

in parent-teacher, assembly, and cycle meetings at host school!
- Working alongside both my CTs and their colleagues to create and modify units and curriculums
throughout
Term 3!
- Given excellent guidance, coaching, and feedback from my cooperating teachers which provided me
with needed advice on how I could improve my teaching practices. !
- I also has daily meetings with my CTs especially after I took over their classes entirely, in order to touch
base
and reflect on the day's lessons. !
- I helped to create lessons for entire grades with the hep of other teachers, and made concrete material
and lessons which were used across a spectrum of students.

- Daily meetings with co-student teachers and CTs at host school, where we were able to discuss our
daily
experiences with supervisor and one another!!
-Discussing pedagogical methods teachers used during our observations, keeping notes of ideas for
lesson
plans and classroom management practices. !!
-Discussing lesson plans with CTs, allowing involvement when permissible and involving I classroom
practices given the classes.!!
-Using
available resources during tutoring periods and resource programs in order to aid students'
advancements.!!
-Being
able to identify my own strengths and weaknesses based on my professional and personal
development as an educator, and this effect of my teaching and learning practices!!
-Reflecting on my own teaching methods and what I witnessed based on my CTs practices and
involvement with his/her classroom!!
