It’s been a tough first round for our MPL team so far, who despite showing grit and determination
have been coming off second best. The game today is the chance for our lads to show that they can
turn their efforts into results on the park. Our WPL team takes on Waimak, in what should be a great
game at Kendall Park. The girls will be working hard to bring all three points home. Good Luck to all
of our teams playing!
We hope everyone has managed to stay warm and dry during this cold snap over the past week and
fingers crossed the rain will hold off for a while now to ensure our pitches remain in great condition!
We will be hosting After-Match at the Horse and Jockey for anyone who would like to come for food
and drink with our teams after the game. (8 Yaldhurst road)
Hello everybody, and welcome to Ilam Fields for today's fixture against Selwyn. It is a pleasure
to welcome Lee Padmore and his staff, players and supporters to Ilam for the first time in the
MPL.
Today, we host a club who do things the 'right way' - well coached, well supported and well
organised. Selwyn come into this match one place above us, on two points, and will certainly
challenge us with their counter attacking threats. Although we suffered a tough loss last week,
I believe that we had plenty of positive patches against a strong Ferrymead Bays side. Whilst
we have been disappointed not to have picked up any points over the first few weeks, I have
been impressed by our squad, who have continued to work hard, develop our game and fight
for the cause.
Again, the holidays have caused a few changes to our squad, and I am delighted with the form
of Millar and Eamon, who are filling in for Tom and Shaun respectively. I challenge this current
group to show me that they are all guaranteed starting players once our squad is back to full
strength.
I hope that everybody enjoys the match today, all the best and Up Up Universities.
UCAFC Goals for Season: To improve sprint speed and short and long passing.
Div 6 Yellow Jackets
The Div 6 Yellow Jackets have a rich history of success with Universities AFC. Two
years ago they took League and Cup glory in Mens Div 4. They found div 3 a
little tougher and as is always the case with University teams, the bulk of the
team have since graduated and moved on.
This year the team is plying its trade in Div 6 and the new look team have set
their sights on repeating their past glories. We believe in you lads!
