(ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING )

a) Define the following terms (i) Node (ii) Branch.


b) Three equal resistances of 3Ω are connected in Star connection, what is the resistance in one of the arms of
Delta Connection?
c) What is the difference between an Ideal and a Practical Source?
d) State Maximum power transfer theorem.
e) What is the difference between Lagging and Leading AC quantities?
f) In a given series RLC circuit, Xc is 150Ω and XL is 80Ω, what is the total reactance? What is the type of
reactance?
g) Define active & reactive power.
h) What is the total reactance of a series RLC circuit at resonance?
i) What is the relation between Quality factor (Q) and band width (BW)?
j) Define time constant.
k) Find the Laplace transform of the function f(t)= cos 2θ .
l) How to represent an AC Steady state source by using PSPICE?
UNIT – I
2.a) State and explain KVL and KCL with examples. (4M)
b) Reduce the network shown in Fig.1, to a single loop network by successive source transformation, to obtain the
current in the 12 Ω resistor. (8M)

3.a)In the circuit shown in Fig.2, Use the loop analysis to find the power delivered to the 4Ω resistor. (8M)
b) Find the equivalent resistance between the two points A and B shown in Fig.3. (4M)

UNIT – II
4.a) Determine the Thevenin’s equivalent across the terminals A and B as shown in Fig.4. (6M)

b) Find the Average and Effective values of the Saw-tooth wave form shown in Fig.5. (6M)

5.a)Find the current IL in the circuit shown in Fig.6,by using Millman’s theorem. (6M)

b) State and explain Tellegen’s theorem with an example in detail. (6M)

UNIT – III

6.a) Obtain the resonant frequency for a circuit consisting of RL elements connected in parallel to
capacitance, Also obtain expression for Q-factor in terms of R, L and C. (6M)
b) The impendence Z1= (5+j3) Ω and Z2= (10-j30) Ω are connected in parallel as shown in Fig.7.
Find the value of X3which will produce resonance at the terminals a and b. (6M)

7.a) Determine the current I in the circuit shown in Fig.8 by using superposition theorem.
(6M)

b) A RLC series circuit is to be chosen to produce a magnification of 10 at 100rad/sec.The source can supply
a maximum current of 10A and the supply voltage is 100V.The Power frequency impendence of the circuit
should not be more than 14.14Ω.Find the values of R,L and C. (6M)

8.a) Find the initial value of the following functions
