Air India Express, the wholly-owned low-cost subsidiary of


National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) says it has
made rapid progress in terms of fleet and network expansion and
number of passengers carried, since its inception three years ago
on 29 April 2005.

Commencing operations with three leased aircraft, Air India Express (AIE) says it now operates
a fleet of 18 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the most technologically advanced single-aisle jet aircraft.
It aims at operating a fleet of 25 aircraft by the end of 2009.

Compared to about 500,000 passengers carried in its inaugural year, AIE said it has ferried 1.8
million passengers during the fiscal, ending March 2008.

It currently operates 153 weekly flights between 13 Indian cities, namely Kozhikode, Kochi,
Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Trichy, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow,
Delhi and Amritsar and 12 international stations viz Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Al Ain,
Salalah, Bahrain, Doha, Colombo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok on the network.
AIE said it proposes to further expand its services by introducing flights to Kuwait from Kerala,
Mangalore and Ahmedabad; to Dubai from Goa, Pune, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. It will also
launch flights to Dhaka from Kolkata.

The carrier also touted the advantages of its Internet-based reservations system, which it says is
very customer-friendly. It allows passengers to make reservations from home, offices or through
appointed travel agents. Passengers have access to fares and availability of seats, which makes it
an extremely transparent system.

There are many banks in India.Among those banks, the one which is largest is the STATE
BANK OF INDIA.When coming to the no. of employees and branch officers, it takes the second
place in the world.In 1806, this bank was established as the bank of Calcutta. It was nationalized
in 1955 by the Indian Government.

This bank, which is having a vast network not only in our country but also in the overseas,
provides a huge range of products for banking.It also aims the products for NRIs.It’s asset base is
around $126 billion and more!!By introducing the scheme of golden handshake it has reduced
huge manpower.However, by starting the programme called Parivartan or Change, it was
unsuccessful in improving the service quality.

HISTORY OF STATE BANK OF INDIA:


In the 19th century of its first decade, the roots of this bank rest.On 2nd june,1806, the Bank of
Calcutta was established.Later it was renamed as the Bank of Bengal.In 1959,the Indian
Government gave the permission to start its 8 associated banks(state).On 13th September, 2008,
among the associated banks, one of the bank named State Bank of Saurashtra merged with this
bank. The employees did not accept for this. So, the management offered sops to make them
agree.

The associated banks of SBI are:

1. State Bank of Indore.


2. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.
3. State Bank of Hyderabad.
4. State Bank of Mysore.
5. State Bank of Patiala.

GROWTH OF SBI:

The bank has been acting as a guarantor to Government of India especially during the period of
Chandra Sekhar as a Prime Minister.The bank has an extensive coverage with more than 10000
branches and more than 6500 associate branches of bank.Under the system of Core Banking, it
has electronically networked all of the branches.It has the largest network of ATM.There are
more than 8500 ATMs around the whole country.In 1992, by the scam of Harshad Mehtha the
bank was marred, but still it had a good growth. It made its expansion in the overseas through
buying foreign banks.

Achievements/Milestones Since BSNL's formation on October 1,

2000 up to September 2001, significant growth has been achieved in almost all the
infrastructural parameters:

• Number of exchanges has grown by 14% to 32369.


• Equipped capacity has grown by 21.5% to 36.43 million in one year.
• Direct exchange lines have grown by 21.5% to 29.4 million.
• TAX capacity has grown by 7.8% to 25,40,000.
• OFC route kms has grown by about 26.9% to 241841.

Achievements April-December 2000:


New Telephone Connections:-
During 1999-2000 a record number of 45.40 lakh new telephone connections were
provided by BSNL, bringing the total number of DELs to 224.8 lakh.
During the current year (April-Dec. 2000) 27.23 lakh lines have been installed.
Total lines installed as on 31-12-2000 is 252.4 lakh.
Public Call Office (PCOs):-
In the urban areas, since there is a long waiting list for telephone connections and also
considering the fact the telephone facility is needed by general public who can not afford
to have a telephone of their own, it was decided that the accessibility should be
improved by providing a large number of PCOs for general public.

Total number of PCOs 326574, STD PCOs, 5449 NHPTs have been provided up to
March 21, 2000.
As on March, 31,2000 the number of villages having Village Public
Telephones(VPTs)was 374605 out of 607491.
During 2000-01(April-December 2000), 152,150 PCOs have been provided.

Provisions of Cellular Mobile Phones:-


It has been planned to introduce WLL technology in the network. Its salient features of
WLL are its fast and easy deployment, flexibility, limited mobility etc. Initially this service
is being introduced in 27 cities by BSNL in the form of pilot project. The estimated cost
of this project shall be about Rs.50 Crore.
Telephone Services:-
3010 New telephone exchanges (Net addition) were
commissioned during 1999-2000 raising the total number of
exchanges to 27569. The equipped capacity of Telephone
Exchanges rose to 281.28 lakh lines with the net addition of
63.02 lakh new lines during the year representing an increase
of 28.87% over the previous year.

The equipped capacity of Telephone Exchanges as on December 31, 2000 was 311.31
lakh lines.
All electromechanical exchanges in the country have been scrapped and
decommissioned. Now the total switching network is electronic type.
