1.Summary

In order to fulfill the requirements of the course EDID 6508 Developing Instructional

Media, Teams had to create a Multimedia Project using the skills learnt leading up to the

assignment. Each team member had to create individual storyboards, then select one of the

storyboards and use a multimedia authoring tool to bring it to reality. Our team, Performance

Trailblazers Designers worked collaboratively to complete the project.

The members of our team are as follows

2. Background - Interactive Programme

An interactive programme was created using Lesson Articulate Storyline 3. The

programme was entitled, Social Issues in Families: Child Abuse. The interactive programme

was divided into various sections inclusive of an Introduction, Objectives, Videos and Quizzes to

challenge the learner. Various tools were used to ensure its interactivity to the user. It included

information on definition of abuse, types of abuse, common signs of abuse, causes of abuse and

what to do when contacted by an abused person. The programme is geared mainly towards

teenagers and adults.

3. Evaluators

As per the requirements, two of our colleagues were invited to view the Multimedia

Project in order to complete the evaluation using the required rubric. Participants selected were

students of UWI enrolled in EDID 6508 - Developing Instructional Media.

Ms. Danielle Sheppard – Evaluator 1

Mr. Renaldo Greyson – Evaluator 2

They were both contacted by WhatsApp to seek their permission to participate, and followed

with an email containing the link to view the Multimedia Project.

4. Group Response to Observations

Format and Platform Transferability

Articulate’s multi-device compatibility allows the content of the programme to be

accessed from laptops, phones or tablets which makes easy access to learners.

From Danielle’s first observation, it should be noted that a slight error in one of the results slide

triggered that effect of incorrect responses as well as completing a quiz. It was noticed by team

member and corrected before the feedback was received.

Overall, it is noted that both evaluators gave feedback that was very positive and as such,

doesn’t leave room to add much more improvements. We conclude that our team effort was

successful in accomplishing the goal of the assignment.

5. Areas for Improvement

Organization of Content

The group considered the suggestion of hyperlinks appearing on the same page and decided

against implementing this suggestion. The hyperlinks took users to another page to keep the

continuity of the visual design and flow of the programme.

Copyright and Documentation

The program used YouTube Videos, without permission from the video creators. Creators should

be contacts and should grant permission in a written form. An alternative to using YouTube

would be to create original videos for the purpose of the program. Another option would be to

use media that are not copyright protected.

Use of Enhancements

Include videos that are no longer than three minutes. Videos are linked from YouTube, but there

are other websites that offer videos such as Vimeo. Narrations are an added feature of YouTube

that can be selected by the user if necessary. A summary of key points of the video can be added

after the video to keep the user focused. Closed Captions will be added to the audio for all slides.

Screen Design:

Adjust triggers so users can complete the quiz on child abuse.

Project: Social Issues in Family

The first set of questions when you asked for example if I knew what a child a child who

is teased looks like when I responded no the feedback was incorrect then is said I would know at

the end of the course. I think the incorrect response should be taken out since there is no wrong

or right answer for these questions. Based on the Project rubric below is my evaluation on the

multimedia project.

Story Board or Planning Sheet: Story board is somewhat complete. Includes many assigned

elements, in addition to most planned formats, necessary URL’s, and resources.

Organization of Content: Logical sequence of information. Menus and paths to more

information are clear and direct. For the screen that looks at child abuse it would have been a

better design if when you clicked on the object a pop up would appear instead of taking you to

another page.

Originality: The product shows evidence of originality and inventiveness. While based on an

extensive collection of other people’s ideas, products, images and inventions, the work extends

beyond that collection to offer new insights.

Copyright and Documentation: The videos used cannot say if approval was needed or given

for their use on the project.

Performance Trailblazers 10

Format and Platform Transferability: I was only able to test the platform on a pc. But from

what I was able to see on a pc the program ran well and had no issues with loading of the

content.

Subject Knowledge: It was evident that design had knowledge on the subject matter.

Graphical Design: Design elements and content combine effectively to deliver a high impact

message with the graphics and the words reinforcing each other.

Mechanics: Presentation has no misspellings or grammatical errors.

Screen Design: Screens contain adequate navigational tools and buttons. Users can progress

through screens in a logical path to find information. However, the quiz on child abuse did not

work as I was unable to click on any area

Use of Enhancements: Some Video, audio enhancements are used appropriately to entice users

to learn and to enrich the experience. In some cases, clips are either too long or too short to be

meaningful. The first video was well laid out and was very interesting to watch one though

adding a narration would have been a plus, as it would allow for the reaching of a wider range of

leaners. Also, although the video on Pete was a bit long it did contain relevant information for

your program.
