Display – Overview

Display
The display is the primary access point between the operator and the truck.
Instead of text being used to communicate information and warnings, icons
communicate information and warnings to the operator.

Figure 1 Display

A Cooler / Freezer application display is available. The label on the back of the
display will have an ‘S’ for Standard application, or an ‘F’ for Cooler / Freezer
application.

Figure 2 Freezer display label, F designates display for use in Cooler / Freezer application

NMHG Technical Training -7-

Display – Overview

Standard features are battery discharge indicator (BDI), hour meter, performance
mode indicator, visual fault indicator, audible fault indicator, and operator
selectable programmable performance modes.

Optional purchase display features are operator password and operator check
list.

Additional purchase options are available for these trucks. These features, such
as Return To Set Tilt (RTST) effect the display and require additional hardware to
be installed on the truck.

Display Keys and Operation

On the face of the display are 10 numeric keys 0 – 9, two arrow keys, and two
symbolic or soft keys.

Figure 3 Arrow, symbolic / soft keys

If any key is pressed when the ignition key is turned on, that key will be
considered stuck and the display will not respond to that input until the key is
released.

If multiple keys are pressed at the same time the display will ignore all inputs.

If a key is held pressed, and a second key is pressed, the second key input is
ignored.

All inputs are single entry. For example, pressing and holding the ‘5’ key down
will result in one instance of the ‘5’ being entered.

NMHG Technical Training -8-

Display – Overview

Operating Screen
The operating screen is visible during normal truck operation. It displays the
current performance mode, direction of travel, battery discharge indicator (BDI),
system time (time of day).

Figure 4 Operating screen

Hour Meter
The hour meter is visible for 5 seconds when the key is turned to the off position
or by pressing the right arrow key with the key in the off position.

Figure 5 Hour meters

Performance Mode
Four performance modes are available, 1 – 4; mode 4 is the factory default
mode. Mode 4 offers the highest performance; mode 1 offers the least
performance. Mode 4 is adjustable by technicians and supervisors in the Truck
Set-up menu, all other modes are defined by mode 4 settings.

Mode Top Speed Limit Acceleration

4 Adjustable Adjustable
3 Same as mode 4 80% of mode 4
2 80 % of mode 4 70 % of mode 4
1 60% of mode 4 60% of mode 4

NMHG Technical Training -9-

Display – Overview

To decrease the performance mode depress the ‘1’ key, to increase the
performance mode depress the ‘4’ key.

Figure 6 Decrease / increase performance mode

If mode 4 is the current mode setting depressing the ‘4’ key will not have any
effect. The same applies to depressing the ‘1’ key if mode 1 is the current mode.

The best practice for changing performance mode is for the truck to be
stationary, with accelerator pedal in the released position and all the hydraulic
levers in their released position also. If one of these three conditions are not met
the mode will not change, the truck will remember the request, the mode will
change when all three conditions are met.

The truck will remember the performance mode request change and implement it
once the interlock conditions are met.

If the truck has the optional Operator Password feature the performance mode
available to operators can be adjusted. If the performance mode that was last
activated is greater than the highest mode assigned to an operator signing on,
the vehicle will default to the highest mode allowed to the new operator upon
power up.

Direction of Travel
Arrow icons indicate direction of travel. When the optional FDC pedal is in the
neutral position an ‘N’ is displayed. The ‘N’ is not displayed for trucks with the
standard Seat Side Directional Control.
