CCSSM-Practice Standard 3: Construct viable arguments and critique

the reasoning of others.
B. Enduring Understandings The slope of a function is a rate of change. Linear functions have a
& Essential Questions constant rate of change.
C. Objectives: (SWBAT) Determine the slope of a linear function from a table of values or
from a graph of the function.

II. Assessment:
A. Formative Assessment Socrative question responses
(Active Strategies to Check Worksheets
for Understanding, Guide Groupwork: story problem
Practice, Exit Class, etc.)
B. Summative Assessment Taxi cab story problem
(when appropriate –
quizzes, objective tests,
essays, projects, etc.)
III. Instruction:
A. Anticipatory Set Describing features of graphs using socrative surveys – students
submit responses
B. Instructional Activities Socrative class discussion for comparing two graphs
(includes Introduction,
Presentation, Clues for Guided practice determining the slope from graphs and from tables
Discovery, Modeling, and
engagement in gradual
Group work discussing and coming up with a method for solving a
release, as planned)
story problem

With special attention to: i. Differentiation Mixed-level groupings allow for

higher level students to discuss
ideas and clarify understandings for
low-level
I can work with struggling students
during individual work time
Students who are ready can
analyze more difficult story
problems
ii. Higher Level Students have to describe their
Cognition problem solving method and must
put their answer in context.

iii. Technology Using Socrative to record student

responses and gauge
understanding
C. Gradual Release Guided practice when completing worksheets that gradually turns
Techniques (See Formative into independent practice (teacher assisted, partner assisted,
