Grace. We have heard this word all through our
lives but do you know what Grace is?
As Christians we are saved by Grace! This is a
very important word.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Read Ephesians 2:8-9
We are not saved by the work that we do.
Read Ephesians 2:9-10
Definition of Grace: From Funk & Wagnalls
(1980)
This is how the New Comprehensive International Dictionary uses to describe Grace:
1. Beauty or harmony of form, attitude, etc.; ease and elegance of speech,
2. Any excellence or attractive characteristic, quality, or endowment.
3. Unmerited favor or good will; clemence; hence, any kindness, favor, or service
freely rendered.
4. Theol. The unmerited love and favor of God in Christ; hence, free gift; the divine
influence acting with the heart, to regenerate, sanctify, and keep it; a state of
reconciliation to God through Christ; the power or disposition to exercise saving
faith and to live the Christian life; any spiritual gift or attainment.
Our people have been deceived! It seems a great many people have little or no idea
what “Grace” really means. When many people are asked the definition of Grace, their
answer is simple, they say, Grace is a prayer you say before you eat.´ I ask you this;
Is it really?´ I think not. It is much more than a simple prayer before you eat.
The definition of Grace:
If grace could be stated in one word, it would be Favor. A favor is something that is
undeserved, unexpected nor requested. True enough, Grace is a word we use to
describe the prayer we say before we eat but that is not the original definition or the only
definition of Grace. Grace from Our Lord Jesus Christ means finding favor, receiving
something undeserved, a gift, from God! By His grace we are redeemed. We can
receive redemption through Him even though we are undeserving of a favor from our
Lord.

We can find favor in the Lord by Grace.
Jesus Christ is the source of grace because of His grace we have redemption and
forgiveness of our sins.
Read: Ephesians Chapter 1
We are predestined to be the adopted children of God because of the sacrifice of Jesus
Christ. We praise Him, because of Him, we are redeemed through His blood, forgiven
our sins, accepted and loved by God according to the riches of His grace.
Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to
himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us
accepted in the beloved.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 1:8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Ephesians 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his
good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
Ephesians 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together
in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in
him:
We are Called & Saved By His Grace
Many people hear the word Grace and have no concept of the meaning. The meaning
we are discussing is a favor or in essence-we receive a gift from God-His Grace.
Galatians 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb,
and called me by his grace,
Sin & Saving Grace
When we lived and remained in our life of sins, we were children of disobedience,
children of wrath, we were full of sin, lusts of the flesh and doing things the flesh
desired, destined to eternal punishment and so full of sin that God could not even look
at us but because of the favor (grace) Jesus Christ showed toward us, we are saved
through faith (believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and died for our sins).
Through the blood He shed for us we are purified and accepted by Him and Jesus
draws us to Him. We are by His grace, saved through faith. This is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children
of disobedience:
Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts
of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the
children of wrath, even as others.
Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with
Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly
places in Christ Jesus:
Ephesians 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his
grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:
Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
When Apollos was baptized by John the Baptist, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and
he started to teach about the Lord. His instruction came from the Holy Spirit that he
received after his baptism. Aquil and Priscilla helped him to speak better. Apollos was
well read in the scriptures and was able to help people with his teachings, to believe
through grace. Apollo taught the people that Jesus was Christ, the same savior that had
been predicted in the scriptures. Apollos helped people who were saved by grace to
understand more perfectly the things of the Lord.

Acts 18:24-28
Acts 18:24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and
mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
Acts 18:25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the
spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of
John.
Acts 18:26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and
Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God
more perfectly.
Acts 18:27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote,
exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much
which had believed through grace:
Acts 18:28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the
scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I
spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. John 1:15
And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. John 1:16
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John

Believers can stand in grace rejoicing and hopeful because we are justified by faith and
thereby have access to salvation through Jesus Christ.
