Visit 1- Tuesday 19th December 2017

• Ai format for any digital print or laser cutting.

• Research other ways of creating support than underwire- e.g. extra slings.
• Make the product feminine but also all about comfort.
• Play around with seams in different places.
• Put seams on the outside, softness on reverse and flat finish against the body.
• No bulkiness in the pocket.
• Play with mesh/laces but maybe a soft fabric on the back so it doesn’t irritate the
scars.
• Soft elastic- brushed back.
• Lightly build up from the skin.
• Create a moodboard to help me with what I’m wanting to achieve inc components,
feedback etc.
• Overlaying meshes on the design.
• Could create a bra within a top.
• Develop idea of being able to move the lace motif around to cover different scars.
• Research and pick 3 areas of consumer needs.
• Focus on a base structure first.
• Keep any development, take photographs of the processes and show how the work
has moved forward.
• Look at ‘Royce’, feminine bras.
• Play with strap placement (elastic with loops).
• Go to City Hospital to have a look around the shop/building.
• Google stats of the most popular age of women to get breast cancer- this builds a
profile and helps to create appropriate design ideas.
• Contact ‘stretchline’ for elastics.
• Hook and hold elastic.
• Built in wing? Gathers in undercup?
• Put stabiliser inbetween.
• Fabrics given to me: Liner for inner cups. Pique- breathable. Mesh. Stabiliser- stops
stretch. White liner- for pocket. White stretch- for outer cups.
• Experiment with finishings.
• Create a sweetheart shape so the prosthesis won’t fall out.
• 3 seam on inner cup.

Visit 2- Friday 23rd February 2018

• Review previous bra toiles.

• Alter patterns to make the cups fit better.
• Alter patterns for prosthesis to fit in pocket better.
• Sample 34C and 36C to see which will hold the prosthesis the more effectively.
• Research ways of making the products more feminine- the cuts, the metallic clasps
etc.
• Patterns for the inner could be used to develop the outer cups.
• Bikini, Tankini and Tank with a cover up?
• Use 3 thread single needle overlocker with fine thread to sew together the pieces.
• Tankini- cut 2 liners, one with a curve cut out of the side for the prosthesis to fit in.
Twin needle stitch down the centre so it holds the prosthesis in place.
• 34C- cut in black, 36c in fluro green- can try cutting again to make a full toile in the
black fabric, cut sarong and tankini in printed fabric.
• Double strap- square the top of the pattern off so I can bind the straps easier, may
need to take a little bit out of the central seam. Fit on a model to see if it needs
altering.
• Method of sewing double strap bikini: lockstitch, twin overlock, bind (straps), rubber
seam along the bottom, coverseam, cross-stitch (bottom and straps). Note: may
need to change the order to: lockstitch, twin overlock, bind (straps), cross-stitch
(bottom and straps), rubber seam along the bottom, coverseam.
• Create a 1 piece pattern from the cup patterns for the pocket.
