PHILOSOPHY OF LAW
ATTY. AQUINO

1. What is the movie “9” about?

The movie 9 is about a apocalyptic world ruled by machines in which 1 scientist granted
life to 9 dolls which cost him his life and the extinction of humanity. Although humanity
became extinct the machines changes their target trying to destroy the dolls to complete
the eradication of all life in earth.

2. What theories / schools of thought are manifested throughout the film?

Economic, get real theory and historical theory. Economic theory, since by reason of
maximization of knowledge a scientist manages to created machines that brought
humanity to it extinction. Get real theory since 1 knows the very consequence if they
wonder outside and only cares that everyone of them stays alive. Historical school, since
the laws created by the dolls are created and followed to adapt to the new society they are
living.

3. Is man a creature of destruction? Is he innately evil? Explain.

No, man is not innately evil. Since what makes a man good or evil is what he does and
the experiences accumulated throughout his life. Every person male or female starts from
zero. Since, as a baby he/she cannot be described as a good or bad child until the child
encounter his very first obstacle in life and what he does will decide for the moment
whether this child will either grow as as good or bad person. The life experience he
accumulates throughout the years will define whether he is good or evil. In simple terms I
do not believe that man is innately evil.

4. Explain the phrase “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”.

It means that some people act believing that they are doing it with good intentions
knowing that it may result to something what the majority would consider as evil.
Though this people would continue to do it since they believe it is the right thing to do
and it would benefit the majority even if they are labeled as an evil entity for committing
such acts.

5. Why are there different schools of thought/ theories in this world that
describe/explain the law? Shouldn’t we just have one unifying theory in order to
promote unity and order of thought?

There are different thoughts and theories in the world because of different customs and
lifestyles and social, economic and political point of view in the world as well as beliefs
which shapes such theories. A unifying theory would only promote conflicts and not unity
in such a case. Since, as a person you can not push your beliefs and views into another at
the same time you cannot disrespect what a person believes in since everyone has a
different view and theories on how they should carry on with their life.
