Nuestro fotoperiodismo 2018 llega a su sexta versión (2007,
2008, 2009, 2010 y 2015) como constancia del papel pro-
tagónico de la reportería gráfica en la información, y es la
oportunidad de detenernos ante esta producción para re-
pasar y reflexionar la historia reciente que queda plasmada
en los medios de comunicación, inmortalizada por el lente,
la acuciosidad y el atrevimiento de los fotoperiodistas.
Movidos por la obligación de cumplir su trabajo para llevar
a la mesa de redacción la mejor fotografía, la que hable
sola y la que además aporte argumentos, los fotoperiodis-
tas conjugan su ojo agudo, la adrenalina de la acción y la
pasión por el oficio periodístico.
Hechos, fragmentos biográficos nacionales, es lo que
capturan. Manzana 1 Espacio de Arte lo valora y copa sus
predios de exhibición con una antología minuciosa y repre-
sentativa de los dos últimos años de acontecimientos, en
todos los campos, en Bolivia.
Fotografías que expresan noticias, eso es Nuestro fotope-
riodismo 2018, que esta vez reúne a 31 autores, la cifra
más alta de participantes hasta el momento y por lo mismo
inclusiva e integradora. Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Samaipa-
ta, Camiri, Sucre, La Paz, Cochabamba, Quillacollo, Uncía,
Trinidad, Tarija son algunas de las ciudades capitales y pro-
vincias que los vieron nacer.
Diversa como es la vida y la conducta cotidiana de las so-
ciedades, así se presenta la muestra Nuestro fotoperiodis-
mo 2018 en las cinco salas de la galería, en el corredor con
vista hacia la plaza Manzana Uno y en el espacio público
habilitado para el proyecto Arte en la plaza, del que esta
muestra es la segunda exposición.
Nuestro fotoperiodismo 2018 llega mayor en participantes,
mayor en área de acción, mayor en cantidad de fotos ex-
puestas, pero con el objetivo de siempre: destacar a los
trabajadores de la imagen periodística, testigos de la reali-
dad desde primera línea.

Manzana 1 Espacio de Arte
Our Photojournalism 2018 is the sixth edition of this exhibit;
previous editions took place in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and
2015). This exhibit provides concrete evidence of the important
role played by graphic reporting. Further, it also allows us to
review and reflect on recent history as registered by the media
and immortalized by the camera lens thanks to the thorough-
ness and daring of photojournalists.
Photojournalists are committed to their work and they always
try their hardest to snap the best possible photograph and
bring it to the news table: their images must be able to speak
for themselves and provide the viewer with many points of
view. To be able to achieve this, photojournalists depend on
their keen sense of sight, the adrenaline rush and their passion
for their craft, journalism.
They capture events, fragments of our country’s biography.
Manzana 1 Espacio de Arte treasures these works and, thus,
has decided to put them on display on its halls, curating the ex-
hibit thoroughly to create a thorough and representative collec-
tion of photographs depicting the most important events that
took place in diverse fields during the past two years in Bolivia.
And this is precisely what Our Photojournalism 2018 intends
to be: an art exhibit of photographs that narrate newsworthy
events. In this edition, the exhibit collects the work of 31
authors, the largest number of participants ever in the history of
this exhibit and, thus, it is the most inclusive show of its kind.
We portray photographs of journalists from Santa Cruz de la
Sierra, Samaipata, Camiri, Sucre, La Paz, Quillacollo, Cocha-
bamba, Uncia, Trinidad, Tarija and others.
Our Photojournalism 2018 is an exhibit as diverse as life itself;
it also portrays the daily life of our society. The collection of
photographs are on display in Manzana 1 Espacio de Arte’s five
halls, in its corridor facing the square as well as the open space
dedicated to the art project Arte en la Plaza, of which Our pho-
tojournalism 2018 is the second exhibit.
Like never before, this edition of Our Photojournalism 2018 in-
cludes more photographers than ever and, thus, it covers more
ground than ever. As a result, the number of works on display is
the biggest one yet. However, its purpose remains the same: to
highlight the works of professionals involved in capturing and
creating newsworthy images, the photographs of those who
bear witness to our reality from the front seats.

ALEXIS GÓMEZ DEMARCO
Buenos Aires, 3 de junio de 1981. Tiene formación en
Ciencias Políticas y reside en La Paz desde 2016. Trabajó
como fotoperiodista en la agencia Marka Registrada y
actualmente cumple la misma función en el diario Página
Siete. Tiene seis años de experiencia en la reportería gráfi-
ca informativa, cuatro en Argentina y dos en Bolivia.
ANDRÉS UNTERLADSTAETTER
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 24 de agosto de 1976. Fotógrafo
con más de 20 años de experiencia. Fue fotoperiodista
y editor en el diario El Deber. Como profesional indepen-
65 • WARA VARGAS diente, hace fotografías institucionales, documentales
66 • RICARDO MONTERO y comerciales. Trabajó para la Casa de las Culturas del
Mundo (Berlín) y en el museo Reina Sofía de España.
Cuenta con 30 fotografías en la muestra permanente de la
Fundación Repsol, en Madrid. Ha expuesto en Manzana
1, Espacio Patiño (Santa Cruz, La Paz y Cochabamba),
Kiosko y Galería Nota.
CARLOS SÁNCHEZ NAVAS
Sucre, 12 de marzo de 1988. Comunicador social. Hace
fotoperiodismo y fotografía documental desde hace cinco
años para medios nacionales e internacionales. Ha publi-
cado en La Prensa, Alarma, El Alteño, Página Siete, Extra,
Los Tiempos, Correo del Sur, El Deber, El Potosí. También
ha colaborado con las agencias APG y Reuters y con las
revistas Diafragma, Jiwaki, Bolivian Express, BEX Maga-
zine, Everyday Latin America, Vice Colombia, Ampolleta
Roja. Integra los colectivos SinMotivo, Everydaybolivia y
Mundo Prismo Photos.
CLAUDIA MORALES LARUTA
La Paz, 1 de agosto de 1987. Es licenciada en Artes
Plásticas, con mención en Diseño gráfico, formada en la
Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, de La Paz. Se inició
como fotoperiodista en 2014 en el periódico La Prensa.
De 2015 a 2017 trabajó en la agencia AFKA. Actualmente
ejerce como fotógrafa independiente.
ALEXIS GOMEZ DEMARCO
Mr. Gomez Demarco was born in Buenos Aires on June 3,
1981. He has studied Political Sciences. He lives in La Paz
since 2016 and has worked as a photojournalist in the agency
Marka Registrada. He currently works as such in the newspa-
per Pagina Siete. He has been working in graphic reporting
for six years, four of them in Argentina and two in Bolivia.
ANDRES UNTERLADSTAETTER
Mr. Unterladstaetter was born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on Au-
gust 24h, 1976. He has been a photographer for over 20 years.
He worked as a photojournalist and editor in the newspaper El
Deber. He also works as a freelance photographer in the field of
institutional, documentary and commercial photography. He has
worked for Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of the World’s
cultures) in Berlin and the Queen Sophia Museum in Spain.
Over 30 of his photographs are currently in Repsol Foundation’s
permanent exhibit in Madrid. His works have been exhibited in
Manzana 1, Espacio Patiño (Santa Cruz, La Paz and Cocha-
bamba), Kiosko and Nota art gallery.
CARLOS SANCHEZ NAVAS
Mr. Sanchez was born in Sucre on March 12, 1988. He studied
Social Communication and has worked as a photojournalist and
in the field of documentary photography for the past five years
for diverse national and international news media. Mr. Sanchez
has published in newspapers such as La Prensa, Alarma, El
Alteño, Página Siete, Extra, Los Tiempos, Correo del Sur, El
Deber, El Potosí. He has collaborated with news agencies such
as APG and Reuters and magazines such as Diafragma, Jiwaki,
Bolivian Express, BEX Magazine, Everyday Latin America, Vice
Colombia and Ampolleta Roja. He is a member of the collectives
SinMotivo, EverydayBolivia and Mundo Prismo Photos.
CLAUDIA MORALES LARUTA
Born in La Paz on August 1, 1987, Ms. Morales has majored
in Fine Arts and has a minor in Graphic Design. She studied
at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, in La Paz. She began
working as a photojournalist in 2014 in the newspaper La
Prensa. She worked in the news agency AFKA from 2015 to
2017. She currently works as a freelance photographer.

CRISTIAN ARAUZ
Camiri, 16 de enero de 1989. Es autodidacta. Pertenece a
una familia de fotoperiodistas, que fue su primera escuela
en la especialidad de registrar imágenes. Trabaja en el
diario El Deber desde 2008 como responsable del archivo
fotográfico digital, tarea que actualmente alterna con la de
reportero gráfico. Su labor se desarrolla sobre todo en las
áreas de deportes, sociedad y política.
DANIEL WALKER
Fairfax, Virginia (EE.UU.), 6 de febrero de 1980. Llegó a
La Paz en el 2000. Se formó en Psicología, en la Univer-
sidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo (La Paz). Comenzó en
la fotografía periodística en la Agencia de Prensa Gráfica
(APG), (2009-2013). Trabajó en La Razón (2013-2014) y
en Página Siete (2014). Vive en Santa Cruz de la Sierra
desde 2015. Desde entonces es fotoperiodista indepen-
diente. Colabora con los diarios locales El Día y El Deber,
además de las agencias APG Noticias y Associated Press
(AP), Reuters, y Agence France-Presse (AFP).
DAVID FLORES SAAVEDRA
Nació en Quillacollo (Cochabamba), el 11 de julio de 1978.
Estudió Sociología y trabajó como fotoperiodista desde
2011 hasta 2017 en el diario Gente, de Editorial Canelas,
de Cochabamba. Actualmente ejerce para la agencia na-
cional APG (Agencia de Prensa Gráfica). Ganó el Premio
Nacional de Periodismo 2014, de la Asociación de Perio-
distas de La Paz, con su producción sobre feminicidio y en
2016 con el reportaje La desgracia de los discapacitados.
EDY YOBANY VELASCO ALANES
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 14 de enero de 1987. Estudió
Ciencias de la Comunicación Social en la Universidad
Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno. Fue auxiliar de docencia
en el área audiovisual. Se especializó en fotografía y
producción de video. Realizó una maestría en Educación
Superior. Ha trabajado como fotógrafo y videógrafo inde-
pendiente y para medios de comunicación. Incursionó en
la comunicación para el desarrollo en pueblos indígenas.
Actualmente trabaja como productor audiovisual en institu-
ciones públicas.
ENRIQUE CANEDO
Sucre, 2 de octubre de 1979. Comunicador Audiovisual
formado en Diakonía, Universidad Católica Boliviana. Diplo-
mado en fotografía en la Universidad Evangélica Boliviana
(UEB) y en Fotoperiodismo en la Universidad San Francisco
Xavier. Cursó Diseño gráfico en Infocal. Fue reportero gráfico
de El Deber (2012-2015) y de El Día, El Sol y Solo Deporte
(2015-2016). Destacan sus coberturas de la Cumbre G-77,
procesos eleccionarios, inundaciones, festivales de música
barroca y la visita del papa en Bolivia.
CRISTIAN ARAUZ
Born in Camiri, January 16, 1989, Mr Arauz is a
self-taught photographer. He comes from a family of
photojournalists, from whom he learned his trade. He
works at the newspaper El Deber since 2008 as chief
of digital photographic files; he also works as a gra-
phic reporter. He specializes in sports events, society
issues and politics.
DANIEL WALKER
Mr Walker was born in Fairfax, Virginia (USA) on February 6.
He arrived to La Paz in 2000. He majored in Psychology at
Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo and started wor-
king as a photojournalist in APG (Agencia de Prensa Gráfi-
ca) (2009-2013) and in newspapers La Razon (2013-2014)
and Pagina Siete (2014). He lives in Santa Cruz de la Sierra
since 2015, where he works as a freelance photojournalist.
Mr. Walker is a collaborator for local newspapers El Dia
and El Deber and APG Noticas and Associated Press (AP),
Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP).
DAVID FLORES SAAVEDRA
Mr. Flores was born in Quillacollo, Cochabamba, on July 11,
1978. He studied Sociology and worked as a photojournalist
since 2011 until 2017 at the newspaper Gente, Editorial Ca-
nelas, in Cochabamba. He currently works for the national
press agency APG, Agencia de Prensa Grafica. He won the
Journalist Association of La Paz Award in National Journa-
lism in 2014 with his work on feminicide and in 2016 with his
report La Desgracia de los Discapacitados.
EDY YOBANY VELASCO ALANES
Mr. Velasco was born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on January
14, 1987. He studied Communications Sciences at Univer-
sidad Autonoma Gabriel Rene Moreno. He was teacher’s
assistant in audiovisuals. Mr. Velasco has a specialization in
photography and video production and a Master’s Degree in
Higher Education. He has worked as a freelance photogra-
pher and videographer and for diverse media and also in
communication for the development of native indigenous
peoples. He is currently an audiovisual producer in diverse
public institutions.
ENRIQUE CANEDO
Born in Sucre on October 2, 1979, Mr. Canedo studied
Audiovisual Communication at Diakonia, Universidad Catolica
Boliviana. He obtained diplomas in Photography from Univer-
sidad Evangelica Boliviana (UEB) and Photojournalism from
Universidad San Francisco Xavier. He studied Graphic Design
at Infocal. He was a Graphic Reporter for the various newspa-
pers such as El Deporte (2012-2015), El Dia, El Sol and Solo
Deporte (2015-2016). He covered the G77 Summit, electoral
processes, floods, baroque music festivals and the Pope’s visit
in Bolivia.
FERNANDO PORTUGAL
Potosí, provincia Bustillos, Uncía, 21 de septiembre de 1983.
Comunicador formado en la Universidad Autónoma Gabriel
René Moreno (UAGRM), diplomado en Marketing. Fue auxi-
liar de docencia. Trabajó en Sitel, en iluminación y cámaras.
También en PAT, en escenografía, iluminación y manejo de
cámaras. Ejerció como fotógrafo y editor de fotografía en
la productora Creación. Fue reportero gráfico de los diarios
El Día, El Sol y Solo Deporte. Es fotógrafo independiente.
Trabaja para la Gobernación de Santa Cruz.
FUAD LANDÍVAR
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 14 de agosto de 1972. Cursó un
diplomado en Fotoperiodismo en la Escuela José Martí de
La Habana (Cuba), en 2005. En 2006 obtuvo una especia-
lidad en Fotografía de la Marginalidad y Pobreza, otorgada
por la Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano.
Trabajó en La Estrella del Oriente. Desde 2002 hasta la
fecha es reportero gráfico en El Deber. Entre otros eventos
importantes, dio cobertura al Mundial de Fútbol Sudáfrica
2010, la Copa Confederaciones Brasil 2013 y el Mundial
de Fútbol 2014.
GABRIEL VÁSQUEZ
Trinidad, 20 de agosto del 1990. Es fotógrafo autodidacta
y estudiante de Comunicación en la Universidad Autónoma
Gabriel René Moreno. Su práctica en la fotografía se inició
con retratos, fotografías en blanco y negro y fotografías de
la naturaleza. Desde 2012 hasta la actualidad trabaja en
el periódico El Deber, desde 2014 en la especialidad del
fotoperiodismo.
HERNÁN VIRGO
Sucre, 12 de diciembre de 1977. Comunicador Social,
formado en la Universidad Gabriel René Moreno. Desde
hace 10 años es periodista gráfico. Trabajó en El Nuevo
Día y desde hace siete años ejerce su profesión en El De-
ber. Entre sus trabajos nacionales e internacionales más
importantes están la cobertura de conflictos, detención de
soldados bolivianos encadenados en Chile, delincuencia
en la frontera con Brasil, el Festival de Viña del Mar y la
estadía en Bolivia del premio nobel de Literatura Mario
Vargas Llosa.
JAVIER MAMANI PACO
La Paz, 24 de marzo de 1977. Fue laboratorista en
Fotogénicos, Cromos, 123, Agfa y Kodak, desde 1990. Se
inició como reportero gráfico en la agencia Jhata. Trabajó
en La Prensa y en La Razón. Colaboró con las agen-
cias internacionales AFP (France Presse) y EFE. Ocupó
portadas en El Deber y en Datos. Fue fotoperiodista de la
revista Poder y placer. Fundó la agencia APG Noticias, que
tiene 12 años y que dirige como editor. Trabaja para Getty
Images y colabora con Fair Play. Preside el Sindicato de
Fotoperiodistas de La Paz.
FERNANDO PORTUGAL
Mr. Portugal as born in Potosí, province of Bustillos, Uncía, on
September 21. He studied Communications at Universidad
Autonoma Gabriel René Moreno (UAGRM) and has a diplo-
ma in Marketing. He was Teacher’s Assistant. He worked
at Sitel in Lighting and Cameras. He also worked in PAT, in
scenery, lighting and camera management. He worked as
photographer and photography editor at Creacion produc-
tions. He worked as Graphic Reporter for the newspapers El
Dia, El Sol and Solo Deporte. He is a freelance photographer.
Mr. Portugal works for the Governorship of Santa Cruz.
FUAD LANDIVAR
Mr. Landivar was born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on August
14, 1972. He obtained a diploma in Photojournalism from
Jose Marti de La Habana (Cuba) institute, where he studied
in 2005. He obtained a minor in Photography in Marginality
and Poverty from Fundacion Nuevo Periodismo Iberoame-
ricano. He worked at La Estrella del Oriente. He has been
working since 2002 as Graphic Reporter at the newspaper
El Deber. He covered diverse important events, such as the
Soccer World Cup in South Africa in 2010, the Brazil Confe-
derations Cup 2013 and the 2014 Soccer World Cup.
GABRIEL VASQUEZ
Mr. Vasquez was born in Trinidad on August 20, 1990. He is
a self-taught photographer and he studies Communication at
Universidad Autonoma Gabriel Rene Moreno. He started his
photography career doing portraits, black and white photo-
graphy and nature photography. He has been working since
2012 at the newspaper El Deber, where he began doing
photojournalism since 2014.
HERNAN VIRGO
Born in Sucre, on December 12th, 1977, Mr. Virgo is a So-
cial Communicator who studied at Universidad Gabriel Rene
Moreno. He has worked as a Graphic Reporter for the past
ten years. He has worked in the newspapers El Nuevo Dia
and, for the past seven years, he has been a photojournalist
in newspaper El Deber. Among his most outstanding natio-
nal and international works are his reports on conflicts, the
arrest of Bolivian soldiers who were chained in Chile, crimes
at the Brazilian border, the Festival of Viña del Mar and the
visit of Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa to Bolivia.
JAVIER MAMANI PACO
Born in La Paz on March 24, 1977, Mr. Mamani worked as
Lab Technician in Fotogénicos, Cromos, 123, Agfa and Kodak
since 1990. He started his work in graphic reporting with the
news agency Jhata. He worked in the newspapers La Prensa
and La Razon. He was a collaborator for AFP and EFE. His
work appeared on the front pages of El Deber and Datos. He
worked as a photojournalist in the magazine Poder y placer.
Twelve years ago, he founded the news agency APG Noti-
cias, where he currently works as editor. He works for Getty
Images and collaborates with Fair Play. He is the president of
the Photojournalist Union in La Paz.
JORGE BERNAL CAMPUZANO
La Paz, 14 de agosto de 1981. Fotoperiodista desde 2008.
Trabajó para Afka. Es fotógrafo de la Agencia France
Presse (AFP). Ha publicado en The New York Times, The
Washington Post, Stern, Los Ángeles Times, The Times
Live, ABC News, San Francisco Chronicle, Le Monde, The
Guardian (Reino Unido), El País y El Mundo (España), El
Nuevo Herald (EE.UU.), El Universal (México). En Bolivia:
La Razón, El Deber, El Nuevo Día, Página Siete, Extra, El
Diario, La Prensa, Los Tiempos, Opinión, Correo del Sur,
Cambio e IN.
JORGE GUTIÉRREZ
Samaipata, Santa Cruz, 6 de septiembre de 1967. Radicó
en Buenos Aires (Argentina) de 1987 a 1996, donde
realizó estudios de dibujo arquitectónico, diseño gráfico y
fotografía en la Escuela Argentina de Fotografía. Trabajó
de forma independiente hasta 1998, año en que ingresó
a El Deber como reportero gráfico, labor que ejerce hasta
la fecha ininterrumpidamente. Confeso apasionado por
el deporte tuerca, cubrió dos mundiales de rally, la Copa
América Argentina 2011 y las últimas cinco versiones del
Rally Dakar-Bolivia.
JORGE IBÁÑEZ
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 15 de diciembre de 1989. Se formó
en Comunicación Audiovisual en Diakonía, Universidad
Católica Boliviana. En el transcurso de su carrera se
especializó en fotografía en un taller impartido por su univer-

Cursó Arquitectura en la UAGRM. Hizo un diplomado en

el Taller de Fotografía Deportiva de Luis Acosta, jefe de fo-
tografía de AFP Colombia, en Bogotá, y el curso on line del
New York Institute of Photography. Se inició en la imagen
fija en un estudio fotográfico y en varias revistas. Desde
2012 es reportero gráfico de El Deber. Hizo coberturas in-
ternacionales, como en el Festival de Viña del Mar (Chile).
JUAN CARLOS TORREJÓN RAMÍREZ
La Paz, 9 de noviembre de 1970. Estudió Fotografía en la
Facultad de Ingeniería de la UMSA. Cursó un diplomado
de Fotoperiodismo en la Escuela José Martí de La Habana
(Cuba). Una gráfica de la toma de rehenes en la superin-
tendencia de bancos, en 2001, le dio el Premio Nacional
de Fotografía de la Asociación Nacional de Periodistas.
También recibió el Galardón Andino como mejor reportero
gráfico en 2005. Trabajó en El Diario, Gente, La Prensa,
El Deber y El Día. Actualmente colabora con la agencia
española EFE.
JORGE BERNAL CAMPUZANO
Mr. Bernal was born in La Paz on August 14, 1981 and he has
worked as a photojournalist since 2008. He worked for Afka.
He is a photographer for AFP and has been published by The
New York Times, The Washington Post, Stern, Los Angeles
Times, The Times Live, ABC News, San Francisco Chronicle,
Le Monde, The Guardian (UK), El País and El Mundo (Espa-
ña), The New Herald (USA), El Universal (México). In Bolivia,
his work was published by: La Razón, El Deber, El Nuevo
Día, Pagina Siete, Extra, El Diario, La Prensa, Los Tiempos,
Opinión, Correo del Sur, Cambio and IN.
JORGE GUTIERREZ
Mr. Gutierrez was born in Samaipata, Santa Cruz, on Sep-
tember 6, 1967. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from
1987 to 1996, where he studied architectural drawing, gra-
phic design and photography at the Argentinian Photography
Institute. He was a freelance until 1998, when he was hired
by El Deber as Graphic Reporter. He has worked there ever
since. He has declared himself an avid fan of car racing and
he covered two rally championships, the 2011 Copa America
soccer tournament in Argentina and reported on the last five
versions of the Dakar-Bolivia Rally.
JORGE IBAÑEZ
Mr. Ibañez was born in Santa Cruz de la sierra on December
15, 1989. He studied Visual Communication at Diakonia,
Universidad Catolica Boliviana, and obtained a diploma in a
photography workshop at this university. He started working
in photojournalism in 2014 for various newspapers, El Dia,
El Sol and Solo Deporte. He has also covered local unrests
and worked as a sports photographer. He covered the 2015
Copa America soccer cup in Chile.
JORGE UECHI
Mr. Uechi was born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on September
21, 1986. He studied architecture at UAGRM and obtained
a diploma in photography from Universidad Evangelica Bo-
liviana (2008); he studied in the Sports Photography under
Luis Acosta, chief of photography of AFO news agency in
Bogota, and has studied online with the New York Institute of
Photography. He started his career working in a photo studio
and in many magazines. He has been a Graphic Reporter
at the newspaper El Deber since 2012. He was assigned
to cover many international events such as the Viña del Mar
Music Festival in Chile.
JUAN CARLOS TORREJON RAMIREZ
Mr. Torrejon was born in La Paz on November 9, 1970. He
studied photography in the Engineering Faculty of UMSA.
He obtained a diploma in Photojournalism in the Jose Marti
de la Habana institute in Cuba. He was awarded the national
Photography Prize by the National Association of Journalists
in 2001 for his graphic report of the hostage situation that
took place in the Banking Superintendence. He was given
the Andean Award for Best Graphic Reporter in 2005. He
has worked for many newspapers, like El Diario, Gente, La
Prensa, El Deber and El Dia. He is currently a collaborator
for the EFE Spanish news agency.
JUAN PABLO ROCA LINARES
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 29 de enero 1982. Fotógrafo y
productor audiovisual. Estudió Ingeniería Comercial en
La Paz y Comunicación Audiovisual en Diakonía, de la
Universidad Católica Boliviana, Santa Cruz. Produjo docu-
mentales, videoclips, spots y cortometrajes. Trabajó como

LUIS FERNANDO MOGRO VACAFLOR
Tarija, 6 de marzo de 1981. Empezó su carrera como re-
portero gráfico en el periódico El Nacional, medio en el que
trabajó durante cuatro años. Actualmente se desempeña
en el diario El País.

La Paz, 27 de marzo de 1984. Integra el colectivo
Fotografía SinMotivo. Publicó en medios de Alemania,
Inglaterra, Francia y EE.UU. Participó en los fotolibros

MANUEL SEOANE
Mr. Seoane was born in La Paz on March 27, 1984. He is
part of the SinMotivo Photography Collective. He published in
diverse news media in Germany, England, France and USA.
His work is showcased in many photobooks, such as Ensayos
fotográficos (2011), Sobre la ciudad y la mirada (2012), and
Cotidiano (2016). His work was exhibited in Germany, The
Netherlands and France. He won the Eduardo Abaroa Prize in
2016 and 2017, as well as the Fredy Alborta Contest in 2016
and the UN Elizabeth Neuffer International Journalism Award
in 2011. He is showcased in the book Fotografia Boliviana. He
was awarded a Reuters scholarship. He studied Hydrology.

He was born in La Paz on October 23, 1982. Mr. Perez del
Carpio studied architecture and has worked as a documentary
film-maker and graphic reporter since 2011. He won several

Mr. Romay was born in La Paz, on July 4, 2990. He is a

El Diario, and the news agency AFKA. Currently he is devoted
to his personal projects as a freelance photographer.
RICARDO MONTERO
Santa Cruz, 20 de noviembre de 1973. Fotógrafo auto-
didacta. Se inició en fotoperiodismo en La Tarde. Fue
responsable de Archivo de Fotografía en El Día y fotógrafo
y editor en El Nuevo Día. Obtuvo el Premio Nacional de
Periodismo 1999 por Un llanto de esperanza, sobre niños
en la cárcel de Palmasola. Desde 2002 trabaja en El De-
ber, actualmente como editor. Cubrió tres versiones de la
Copa América de Fútbol, dos cumbres de las Américas, un
terremoto en Chile y entrevistas a presidentes bolivianos y
extranjeros.
RICARDO MONTERO
Mr. Montero was born in Santa Cruz, on November 20, 1973. A
self-taught photographer, he began working as photojournalist
in La Tarde. He was the Chief of the Photography Archives
at the newspaper El Dia and editor at El Nuevo Dia. He was
awarded the National Journalism Award in 1999 for his report,
Un llanto de esperanza, on children who reside at Palmasola
prison. He has been working at the newspaper el Deber, where
he currently he holds the position of editor. He covered three
versions of the Copa America soccer tournament, two versions
of the Summit of Americas, an earthquake in Chile, and inter-
views with Bolivian and foreign presidents.

WARA VARGAS
Ms. Vargas was born in Cochabamba, on February 24, 1977.
She majored in Social Communication and has a diploma in
newspaper photography from the International Journalism Ins-
titute Jose Marti de Cuba. She has worked in Bolivian news
media for 15 years. She won the second place in the cate-
gory of photojournalism at the Latin American Photography
Award 2012. She obtained an honorary mention at Poy Latam
2013. Her work was exhibited in Bolivia, Germany, Colombia,
Brazil, Argentina and the US. In 2015, she had an individual
exhibit in the Montevideo Center for Photograhy and at the
Revela-T Festival of Analog Photography in Barcelona.
