ED 123
Back Ground Information: The student that I assessed on 4-23-16, Eleanor P, is a 7-year-old
first grader at Alameda Elementary School in North East Portland. Eleanor lives with her older
brother and her parents. Her mother is an elementary school teacher at Happy Valley
Elementary. Also, Eleanor has always been excited about learning and going to school and gets
along well with her classmates She was excited about taking the assessment and was very eager
to set up a time for me to come to her home. The student has no mental or physical disabilities.
Observation during the assessment: When I arrived to the house, Eleanor saw me through the
window and quickly ran to the door to greet me. When I gave the book to Eleanor which was
King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub by Audrey Wood, she took the book excitedly. She answered
every question quickly and correctly. For example, when I asked her where the title of the book
was, she pointed to the front cover of the book. Also, Eleanor was able to respond to each
question with confidence. Eleanor was able to point out the punctuation and knew the difference
between each punctuation and how they effect a sentence. When I directed Eleanor to use her
finger to point to each word while I was reading the story, she was able to keep up with my
assessment. The assessment took 22 minutes. While I was giving the assessment to Eleanor, I
could tell how familiar she was with books and how she didn’t feel overwhelmed with the
questions I asked her. Eleanor gave good eye contact when I asked her a question and understood
perfectly what was being asked. Eleanor followed all my directions and was very attentive.
Due to how well Eleanor did on this assessment, I predict she will perform well on the Oral
