1.0 SCOPE

1.1 This specification covers the requirements for a comprehensive topographical

survey for the Facility in Kuwait.

1.2 The extent of the work shall be as shown on the Project Drawings.

1.3 The topographical survey shall be performed using electronic data recording
equipment and shall be of sufficient detail and accuracy to fulfill the
requirements defined in section 4.0.hereinafter.

1.4 The Contractor shall supply to the Company all deliverable items specified in
section 5.0.hereinafter.

2.0 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS

The topographical survey shall be performed, except where otherwise

specified, in accordance with the current issue and amendments of the
following document prevailing on the effective date of the Contract:

2.1.1 International Standards

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

Specification for Surveys of Land, Buildings and Utility Services

Compliance with this specification shall not relieve the Contractor of its
responsibility to perform the survey to meet the specified service conditions
and applicable regulations.

Where conflicts exist between this specification and other Drawings,

standards, codes and specifications, the most stringent shall be applied.

3.0 SERVICE CONDITIONS I

All equipment used by the Contractor shall be suitable for a desert location under
high ambient temperatures and humidity. The atmosphere at the Facility is
generally dusty and corrosive and may contain traces of hydrogen sulphide.

4.0 TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY

4.1 Reference Datums

4.1.I The Contractor shall establish local reference points from the
Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Grid, Zone 38, World
Geodetic System (WGS) Spheroid.

4.1.2 These points shall be well protected and described in the survey
report.

4.1.3 The UTM Grid shall be shown at 50-m., intervals on the survey
Drawings.

4.1.4 All elevations shall be related to the Kuwait Public Works

Department (PWD) Datum.

4.2 Freauencv and Accuracv of Readinas

4.2.1 The topographic survey shall record all relevant surface features and
objects within the specified areas.

4.2.2 The frequency of readings shall provide sufficient detail to enable

preparation of cut and fill calculations, grading Drawings and pipe
routing Drawings.

4.2.3 Ground levels should be taken on a maximum grid of 10 m or less

for on-plot areas and 25 m or less for off-plot areas to enable
contours to be drawn at 0.5-m intervals.

4.2.4 The accuracy of readings shall be * 50 mm in both plan and

elevation.

4.3 Electronicallv Recorded Data

Field data, recorded by electronic data loggers etc., shall be "backed up" on
a daily basis, to ensure against loss of previously gathered information.

4.4 Survev Eaui~ment

4.4.1 All equipment used by the Contractor shall at all times be in good,
usable condition. Survey work shall in no event be performed with
instruments or equipment which, because of damage, defects,
improper condition, or poor adjustment, are incapable of producing
the accuracy required in the work.

4.4.2 All instruments shall have current certification for calibration, etc.

4.4.3 Minor adjustments shall be made in the field as may be practicable.

4.4.4 Equipment that cannot be used satisfactorily shall be replaced, as

directed by the Company.

5.0 CONTRACTOR'S DELIVERABLES

5.1 Drawingg

5.1.1 The results of the topographical survey shall be shown at a scale of

1 :1000, in a permanent graphic medium, on a plastic film original
and submitted for Company approval.

5.1.2 All survey Drawings shall be contained within a standard Company

A1 -size Drawing frame.

5.2 Com~uterData

Following Company approval of the Drawing, the Contractor shall

supply the survey data on either:

a. 3%-in. floppy disc.

b. 112-in. magnetic tape.

c. 8-mm magnetic tape.

3%-in. floppy disc is preferred, but magnetic tape is acceptable if

the amount of data recorded is large.

The size of a file, stored on a 3-in. floppy disc shall be limited t o

1.2 MB.

The data format shall be compatible with the lntergraph Microstation

Environment and lnsite Programme, or other similar Company-
approved system (see paragraph 6.2).

Data shall be supplied as:

a. An American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII)

file in Interactive Coordinate Geometry Subsystem (ICS) format,
containing ground levels from the 10125-m grids and other
surface features, such as: ridge, valley, highest and lowest
points. Ground levels shall be entered as regular, break and spot
features. (See Attachments 1 and 4.)

b. An ASCII file in ICS format containing all other features (road,

fence, pipeline, etc). (See Attachments 2 and 4.)

c. A Computer-Aided Draughting (CAD) graphics file in lntergraph

Microstation or Drawing Exchange Format (DXF), which is the
electronic format of the survey drawings (see section 5.1).

The ICS format shall be as shown on Attachments 1 and 2.

Element attributes shall be as shown in the Sample Features

Table, Attachment 3.

Degrees shall be recorded in decimals (D.DDD).
