Dear Grand Blanc Bobcats,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year! This year promises to provide all of us
with the unique opportunity to continue to grow our brand and help solidify our Tradition of Excellence with
our commitment to the Positivity Project. I am eager for our students, parents, and the community to join
us on this journey. So, to kick things off, here are a few of the details regarding August 29th:.

Who: EVERY single Grand Blanc Team member! #WeAreGB

When: #P2DayinGB will begin promptly at 8:30am on Tuesday August 29th and concludes at 3:30pm.

Where: You will start and end your day at your home building. The first 30 minutes (8:30-9:00) will
introduce the purpose and events of the day and last 30 minutes (3:00-3:30) will debrief the event.

What: Each building has Culture and Character (C2) Committee representatives, that along with your
building principal, will start the day by giving you a 30 minute overview glance of positive psychology, the
“other people matter” mindset, and The Positivity Project in practice in classrooms. At 9:00am you will
venture out in teams of 5 to experience some of the character strengths in action throughout Grand Blanc.

What to bring: Yourself and a smart phone if you have one. At least one person in the group of 5 will be
the chief social media poster. One person in each team of 5 will be asked to volunteer to serve as a
driver for the group as well.

Uniform: Wear comfortable attire to include you P2 T-Shirt that you’ll pick up on opening day.

Lunch: Come to West Middle School cafeteria for a district-wide cookout from 11:00am-1:00pm. 30
minute windows for lunch will be established by Team number.

11:00-11:30 - Teams numbered 1-8

11:30-12:00 - Teams numbered 9-13 + Anderson/McGrath
12:00-12:30 - Teams numbered 14-18 + Anderson/McGrath
12:30-1:00 - Teams numbered 19-24

We are very excited to have you come to this event with an open-mind about who you and others are, not
what you are. The goal would be to gain a greater insight into the science of character and understand
that we can use the language of positive psychology to develop and cultivate relationship with each other,
our students, and their families in a sustained way.

In the meantime please take some time to take the VIA (Values in Action) Character Strengths Survey,
which will rank order your own 24 character strengths. Survey can be found at www.viacharacter.org
Print or screenshot your results to have available to discuss in your buildings and as teams.

Sincerely,

Clarence Garner
Superintendent
