OFFICE OF THE YOUTH FOR ENVIRONMENT IN SCHOOL ORGANIZATION (YES-O)

ACTIVITY PROPOSAL ON WASTE MANAGEMENT

I. PROJECT SUMMARY
Title : “BASURA KO, IMAMANAGE KO: Waste Collection Initiative”
Venue : MALAGUIP INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Start Date : July 2017

II. RATIONALE
Environmental education has been a key concern of every school. This is anchored
on call of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs; formerly Millennium Development Goals)
which uphold that long-term and continuous progress may only be ensured if our generation
will be able to fulfill our needs without compromising the resources of the future.

In response to this call to action, various institutions advocated the 3Rs – reduce,
reuse and recycle. These simple but high impact actions have proved their contributions in
altering the effects of human activities on the planet’s surface by significantly decreasing
improperly disposed wastes and increasing the useful period of non-biodegradable products.

Moreover, recycling or even the simple collection of recyclable and salable wastes
has been an avenue for emerging organizations to generate funds for environmental programs
while providing concrete experiences on proper waste management to their members.

Hence, an initiative waste collection mechanism is hereby proposed at Malaguip

Integrated School. This program will encourage student and sections to collect their own
wastes and submit it to the Materials Recovery Facility.

III. OBJECTIVES
This program intends to address the call of the Sustainable Development Goals to educate the
youth about proper waste management. Specifically, this intends to fulfill the following:
a. minimize improperly disposed recyclable/salable wastes in the campus;
b. maximize the participation of every student in proper waste management;
c. provide incentives to students/sections exhibiting upmost cooperation in waste
management in the campus;

the school an Eco-Friendly Campus.
