The first text called “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M is a song lyric explaining/talking about
reminding someone who is depressed, who feels lonely and who are tired of their life. On the first
verse the lyric says “When your day is long and the night, the night is yours alone”, it explains on
how this person is feeling very lonely and on the first verse the lyric also says “When you're sure
you've had enough of this life, well hang on” it means that the song writer is reminding this
depressed person to no matter what happen ‘do not give up”.
On the second verse the songwriter mentioned in the lyrics “Don't let yourself go 'cause
everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes “ In this sentence its explaining that being hurt is
normal to everyone, everybody will get hurt. In the lyrics the songwriter also mentioned, “If you feel
like you're alone. No, no, no, you are not alone” which explains on if you ever feel lonely just
remember that you’re not alone there will always be someone who truly cares about you, you don’t
live alone in this world.

So this first text is actually explaining on no matter how depressed we are we should not
give up on life, and no matter how much we’ve been hurt that doesn’t mean we should give up
because being hurt is normal, like it or not it will happen to everyone, and if you ever feel hurt just
remember what you’re feeling is not only valid but necessary, because it makes you so much more
human.
The second text is explaining about a person who is depressed, in the text it self it is shown
that the person on the image is crying and he’s depressed by his expression, on how his eyes turns
red and his face looks like hopeless and done with life. The colors used in this text are also dark
colors, which usually represent sadness, depression, and etc.
It’s written in the text with a quotation by Thabiti Boone saying “depression doesn’t have to
keep us down. The healing is in me, and the healing can be extended to others.” The quotation itself
explains it all, the text are trying to say that when someone depressed it doesn’t always mean
you’re over with your life, doesn’t mean depression is going to keep you down, when the text says
“the healing is in me” the choice is in you, weather you want to stand up and fight for yourself or
you want to give up with your self, and when the text says “and the healing can be extended to
others” it means that when you try to stand up from depression you can also heal others, you can
make people stand up from depression too by motivating them. The conclusion of this text, is
explain about how we should not give up on ourselves, not even when we get depressed, we should
be able to stand up and fight back, because in the text itself it’s also mentioned that “healing starts
with us.” Which clearly means we have to start fighting back for ourselves.
Both texts do have connection, because actually they have the same theme, they are
explaining about a depressed person who should not give up on their depressed condition, both
texts are trying to say when depression drags you down you can always fight for yourself. Both texts
also share the some similarities; the first example is definitely about the theme itself, because they
use the same theme, they are motivation depressed people to get up. The second example that
both texts has is when the lyrics says “When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang
on” and the PSA mentioned “depression doesn’t always have to keep us down. The healing is in me,”
its basically telling the same message on how we should hang on to life and its basically explain the
theme where we should not (again and again) give up. The third example is when the first text says
“hold on, hold on
everybody hurts” and the second text says “depression doesn’t have to keep us down” it connects on
how we should hold on and try again.
The song lyrics definitely support the PSA because the PSA is only explain like one sentence
but the song lyrics explains it all, it explains the complete motivation for depressed people. The first
example where the song lyrics support the PSA; “When your day is long and the night, the night is
yours alone when you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on”, the second example;
“Don't let yourself go
'Cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes” and the third example is; “If you feel like
you're alone no, no, no, you are not alone” those 3 examples are the ones who explains the most
and who supports the PSA the most, because it explains on how depression should not tear us
down but it should wake us up.

Text #1 – A song lyric, “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M.

When your day is long

And the night, the night is yours alone
When you're sure you've had enough
Of this life, well hang on

Don't let yourself go

'Cause everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong

Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone (Hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go (Hold on)
If you think you've had too much
Of this life, well hang on

Everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts
Don't throw your hand, oh no

Don't throw your hand

If you feel like you're alone
No, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life

The days and nights are long
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes

Everybody cries
Everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes

So hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts
