Trinidad and Tobago’s status as the financial centre of the
English-speaking Caribbean was further strengthened during the
formal tour and reception function at our Operations and Shared
Services Company Limited (OSSCL) on Wednesday April 4th, 2018.
Minister of Finance, The Honourable Colm Imbert, along with
other Ministry representatives, Trinidad and Tobago International
Financial Centre (T&T IFC) executives, including current Chairman,
Richard P. Young, and members of the media were all invited on a
personalised walkthrough of the state-of-the-art Shared Services
hub.
Established in 2013 the OSSCL houses the Bank’s back-office
operations, inclusive of account processing, reconciliations,
customer support, and collections services for Trinidad and Tobago
and 17 other countries in the wider Caribbean Region.
Our Chaguanas-based Shared Service hub is now a leader in the
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry, utilizing the strength
of the country - our people. The availability of a diverse and
skilled workforce where English is the primary language was one
of the main reasons Trinidad and Tobago was selected as the ideal
location for the company. Additionally the country’s well
established infrastructure and telecommunications, with the
capacity to support cross border operations with other regional
players was another key reason.
This initiative has been a source of pride for Minister Imbert, who
sees it as evidence of the benefits of foresight and innovation.
“This Scotiabank company clearly shows what is possible when
private and public sectors collaborate to realise a shared vision,”
he said.
T&T IFC Chairman, Richard P. Young, was keen to point out that
the OSSCL today holds the honour of being the largest Shared
Services Centre in Trinidad and Tobago and commended
Scotiabank on the achievement. “You are definitely the pioneers
taking Trinidad & Tobago into the new age of achieving
efficiencies and profitability through centres of excellence” he
stated.
In his address, Stephen Bagnarol - Senior Vice President and Head,
Caribbean South and East, Scotiabank spoke of our commitment
to helping make customers’ lives better off by focusing on our
number one priority – becoming an even more customer focused
organisation – through the development and roll out of our
digital transformation agenda. This, coupled with our Shared
Services Centre facilitates our front line employees’ focus on
providing advice and solutions to customers. “Furthermore,” he
added, “the hub allows us to provide Best in Class service and
continue in our thrust of continuous improvement in the service
delivery platform to all our customers.”
