Instrumentation Bubbles Tag Numbers

Inside these bubbles there will be
letters that identify the function of
Shared Display/Control Computer Systems Discrete the instrument on top. There are
Primary/Basic Alternate/Safety and Software Instruments also numbers on bottom that
identify the process loop. Together
these letters and numbers make up
• Located in the Field the Tag Number of the component.
• Not Panel, Cabinet, or Console Mounted
• Visible at Field Location
• Normally Operator Accessible Common Identifying Letters
1st letter (property being measured)
F = flow rate P = pressure
T = temperature L = level
• Located on Front of Main Control Panel
• Visible on Front of Panel or Video Display 2nd letter (modifier)
• Normally Operator Accessible at Panel D = differential F = ratio
simply omit if no modifiers apply
3rd letter (passive/readout function)
• Located Behind Main Control Panel A = alarm R = record
• Located in Cabinet Behind Panel I = indicator G = gauge
• Not Visible on Control Panel or Video Display 4th letter (active/output function)
• Not Normally Operator Accessible C = controller T = transmit
S = switch V = valve
5th letter (function modifier)
• Located on Secondary Control Panel H = high L = low
• Visible on Front of Panel or Video Display O = open C = closed
• Normally Operator Accessible simply omit if no modifiers apply

Use these bubbles to represent

instruments and to label final control
• Located Behind Secondary or Local Control Panel elements like valves as shown here.
• Located in Field Cabinet
• Not Visible on Control Panel od Video Display FCV
• Not Normally Operator Accessible 045
