OFFICIAL WRITING 01
The Most Memorable Experience I Had in High School

Prompt:
Among all the experiences you had in high school, there is one that is exceedingly
memorable. Consequently, write in DETAIL that unforgettable experience that you will
always remember for it was a nice event in your early lifetime at the moment you were in
high school.

Based on this prompt, prepare an outline with a good thesis statement. Then support your
thesis statement with the description of the event from the beginning to the end. After
that, support these main ideas with details using facts & reasons, and specific examples.
Finally, prepare a conclusion that reflects the main ideas that you have exposed in the body in
the way of a summary or a restatement of your thesis statement.

Remember one thing. Descriptive writing is a type of organization in which you have to
describe the event and the principal things that are related to the event in greater detail;
however, do not add irrelevant details that do not contribute to this description. In other
words, the person who is going to read your descriptive writing is going to picture in his/her
mind the colors around, the facial or body expression of people, the weather conditions at the
moment of the event, the ideas expressed by the audience if any, the smells around, the way
people look or wear, the emotions of the participants including your emotions, the
infrastructure around, and so on. It means that the reader would read your composition and get
a clear idea about the event and other people, places, and things as if the reader were looking
the event in a movie. That’s the reason why this is called DESCRIPTIVE WRITING,
Moreover, use good grammar and vocabulary items that are based on UNIT 04, 05 and 06
for ARW02 (see your grammar notes and exercises on the corresponding pages). Also
underline these grammar and vocabulary items. Additionally, use adequate connectors
(subordinating conjunctions, coordinating conjunctions, and transitions), keep good UNITY
and COHERENCE, and also keep good mechanics (spelling, punctuation, capitalization,
etc).

Later, write a composition using the ideas in your OUTLINE. Never omit, nor add ideas that
are not in the OUTLINE. Obviously, you have to write more sentences that do not appear in
the OUTLINE because the OUTLINE is just the skeleton of your composition. In your essay,
you have to develop the INTRODUCTORY SENTENCES that are referred to de topic and
attract the reader leading him/her little by little to the thesis statement at the end of the
introductory paragraph. In the introduction, do not write too many details, avoid doing that.
Leave the details for the body paragraph. Then the body paragraphs need a topic sentence that
states the idea that you have to develop in your composition. Add good description of the
things that involved this memorable event in high school. Finally, write the concluding
paragraph that can be a restatement of the thesis statement or a summary of the most
important ideas in the body paragraph. My suggestion is that you paraphrase the thesis
statement. After you write the conclusion, add your extra comment about the topic (three or
four sentences that can be a reflection, suggestion, recommendation, or opinion about the
topic).

Present your outline to your teacher for corrections and then when your outline is good
prepare your composition in an essay format.

P. S. To help you out, I wrote the thesis statement for you, but you have to mention the
accomplishment you did in high school. Additionally, the topic sentences for each body
paragraph are done. Also, the conclusion is done, but you have to add your extra comment.

In conclusion, every time I remember the moment when I won the first place in a mathematic
contest, I know that I will never keep this moment out of my life because of the fabulous things that
happened before, during and after I accomplish this thing. In my opinion this special event in my
life in High School made me realize that I had mathematics skills and my calling was something
where I could apply math, so some years later I decided to study Engineering.
