Lesson unit/page Student teacher

To investigate living things. Khadija Mohammed

MST/MCT Taira Astab School Al Yasmina School

Class Date
Year 2 Rowling 4th March 2018
Overall aim and context of the lesson:

The aim of this lesson was to make students explore and compare the differences between things that are living,
that are dead and that have never been alive. Also, students were able to answer questions about living and non-
living things and provide some examples from their own knowledge. In addition, students developed their
collaboration and interpersonal skills because this lesson required them to work with each other so as to expand on
their ideas and knowledge.

Choose two aspects from the competency areas to evaluate and discuss (one paragraph each) according to
following

Firstly, discuss one aspect that YOU feel you did very well. Try to analyze why you think it worked well and
what hints you would share with other teachers about the successful strategy/ resource/activity/management
style etc.

Secondly, elaborate on the aspect identified by YOU that requires attention. Discuss what the problem was, why
it occurred and what action you intend to take to be more successful in the next lesson.

Implementing/ managing learning and managing the classroom were the most aspects I think that I have
succeeded with. I know this because, throughout the lesson all students were highly engaged and involved which
lead to success. In addition, the tools and resources that were utilized within the lesson ensured maintaining
students attention. To elaborate, students had to listen to a presentation about ‘Living and ‘Non-Living things’.
This presentation was very lengthy and such thing would bore the students and I would loose their attention.
However, the presentation was summarized into important slides that students must be aware of. In addition,
questioning was one of the skills that ensured students participation and concentration during the lesson. In which,
after every information students were given, they were asked interesting questions that interested them and made
them get involved. Furthermore, I think that I didn’t face any behavior issues because students enjoyed the topic
that they were learning about. Also, students were following the instructions effectively because this lesson
contained fun activities such as: drawing, coloring, labeling and writing short sentences (reasons). Furthermore,
students were told that if they used their time wisely and completed their work they will have time to play a game
by the end of the lesson. Such thing made students work and try their best to finish as much as they can in order to
play the game. However, majority of the students wasn’t able to finish their activity and they didn’t get the chance
to play the game. Hence, I rewarded all of them by giving them stickers because all of them worked hard and
followed my directions.
In my opinion, I would share with other teachers that conducting fun activities within the classroom
maintains students positive behavior, concentration and participation. In addition, if students are going to learn
about a topic that is long or contains many information, try to make it simple and fun because students dislike
listening to lectures for a long period of time.
Whereas, time management skill is the aspect that requires attention and improvements. This is because, I
noticed that within every lesson I teach students doesn’t have time to complete the assessment that I conducted for
them. Also, this requires my to change the plan and assess their understanding by asking them open and close
ended questions.
However, this misconception could be enhanced by making my starter short and simple in order to give
them enough time to complete the activity. Also, I could set for them a timer and display it on the board in order to
keep them aware of the time they have left for finishing their task.

Personal focus for next lesson:

In my future lesson, I will ensure that I improve my time management skills by setting up timer and display
it on the board. Also, I would keep my instructions short and simple in order to save time.
