The calibration procedure for inspecting cylindrical plain plug gages is written very generally. Experienced technicians should not need detailed
instructions for inspecting these very basic inspection devices. As noted before, entities needing to obtain QS-9000 certification do need detailed
procedures. More detailed information can be obtained from the following sources:
Accuracy requirements for plain plug gages can come from several sources. MIL-STD-110 and MIL-STD-111 list tolerances for a wide range of sizes of
“Go” and “No-Go” plain plug gages. ASME B89.1.5 also lists specifications for plain plug gages. A “drawing” may also be associated with a plain plug
gage. The “drawing” may or may not be an actual drawing. It can be a simple 8½ x 11 sheet with text describing the gage requirements and tolerances.
