EDT180C: RELATIONSHIP

BETWEEN WORK AND SCHOOL

MAIN FOCUS

THE MAIN FOCUS OF OUR GROUP WAS TO EXAMINE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HAVING A JOB AND
ATTENDING SCHOOL. OUR GROUP’S GOAL WAS TO FIGURE OUT IF HAVING A JOB NEGATIVELY AFFECTS
A STUDENT’S SCHOOL PERFORMANCE.
POPULATION
THE MAJORITY OF STUDENTS THAT TOOK OUR
SURVEY ARE FRESHMEN. WE HAD A TOTAL OF
130 RESPONSES, WHICH CONSISTED OF 80
FRESHMEN, 29 SOPHOMORES, 15 JUNIORS, 4
SENIORS, AND 2 GRADUATE STUDENTS. WE HAD
NO POST-BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS.
GENDER
MOST OF OUR RESPONDENTS ARE FEMALE. WE
HAD A TOTAL OF 107 FEMALES, 20 MALES AND
TWO INDIVIDUALS WHO PREFERRED NOT TO
STATE THEIR GENDER.
YEARS AND EMPLOYMENT
THIS GRAPH SHOWS HOW MANY STUDENTS
HAVE A PART-TIME JOB, A FULL-TIME JOB OR A
SEASONAL JOB. THE DATA IS SPLIT UP BY CLASS.
ACCORDING TO THE DATA, MOST STUDENTS,
REGARDLESS OF THEIR CLASS, HAVE A PART-TIME
JOB. OUT OF THE TWO GRADUATE STUDENTS
WHO TOOK OUR SURVEY, ONE HAS A FULL-TIME
JOB WHILE THE OTHER HAS A PART-TIME JOB.

WHEN OUR GROUP SPLIT UP THE DATA BY
GENDER, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT MOST
MALES AND FEMALES HAVE A PART-TIME JOB.
EMPLOYMENT AND CREDIT HOURS
MOST STUDENTS WITH A PART-TIME JOB
ARE TAKING 17 CREDIT HOURS. HAVING A
SEASONAL JOB IS ALSO POPULAR
AMONGST STUDENTS TAKING 17 CREDITS.

STUDENTS
CONCENTRATE?
AFTER TAKING IN THE RESPONSES, WE
DETERMINED THAT ALL OF THE STUDENTS
THAT DID HAVE A JOB ALL FOCUSED
THEIR ATTENTION ON SCHOOL
REGARDESS OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT

FINDINGS
IN CLOSING, OUR RESEARCH FOUND THAT MOST OF THE POPULATION THAT HAD PARTICIPATED HAD PART
TIME JOBS. IN ADDITION TO THIS, MOST OF OUR PARTICIPANTS ALSO TOOK ABOUT 17 CREDIT HOURS
WHILE WORKING A PART TIME JOB WHILE ALSO HAVING A MARGINAL AMOUNT OF PARTICIPANTS
WORKING FULL TIME OR SEASONAL. MOST STUDENTS DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM COMPLETING
THEIR SCHOOL WORK OR DEVOTING AMPLE TIME TO THEIR SCHOOL WORK. LASTLY, WE ALSO FOUND
THAT A MAJORITY OF STUDENTS HAD AN ABOVE AVERAGE GPA DESPITE HAVING A JOB.
