Tutorial VI

PERT Network
1. Find out the expected time for each activities in series. Also find out standard
deviation for the project.

Activity to tm tp

1-2 4 6 8

2-3 6 7 8

3-4 10 12 15

4-5 12 15 18

2. Determine the slack for each event and critical path. Prepare table. What would be the
time duration of the project to complete project with 60% probability?

3. Find out the earliest expected time and latest allowable occurrence time of each event.
Also find out slack for every event. Find critical path. Find out probability to
complete project in 25 days and in 30 days.

4. For construction project, for a particular activity P, time estimates provided by three
managers are as under. State, who is more certain about the time of completion of the
activity P.

5. Find out the earliest expected time and latest allowable occurrence time of each event.
Also find out slack for every event. Find critical path. Find out probability to
complete project in 40 days and in 50 days.

6. What do you understand by probability factor? What is the significance to calculate

probability factor in PERT network?
7. What do you understand by earliest expected time of event and latest allowable
occurrence time of event?
8. Differentiate between CPM and PERT network based on your experience.
9. What do you understand by standard deviation and variance in the context with PERT
network?
10. Define: Most likely time, Optimistic time, Pessimistic time. When will you carry out
analysis based on three different time estimate? Why?
11. Differentiate between normal distribution curve and beta distribution curve.
