will fall in love with, it is called Gili Trawangan Island.
Head to Lombok Island first and next, take a road trip
on a car which will be approximately 2 hours drive from Lombok’s
airport, after that you will have to take a boat for probably 20 to 45
minutes depending on the type of boats you will take, a slow boat
or a speed boat. All this effort just to get there will definitely pay off
once you arrived at the island! Upon arriving, you will see beautiful
white sands and clear water on the beach welcoming you.

indeed a perfect destination to escape from
the hustle bustle of your chaotic life and also
a great way to spend your weekend. Because
of that, we present you four reasons why you
should visit Bandung.

1. BEAUTIFUL NATURE
Located at 768 meters above sea
level, the weather in Bandung
is one of the coolest compared
to other cities in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the bowl-like
topography has made Bandung's
landscape to be surrounded by
mountains.
The abundance of mountains gave
Bandung a lot of scenic attraction
spots. You can go hiking to see
crater and boiling some eggs from
natural hot springs at Tangkuban
Perahu, or take an awesome selfie
by posing on the edge of the cliff
at Tebing Keraton. (but be careful
unless you want to take a fall).
In addition, these kinds of views
are very common to be seen while
you're in Bandung.
2. FASCINATING CUISINE
With the majority of Bandung
residents being Sundanese
people, Bandung has a lot of
Sundanese cuisine that you need
to try. Have a taste of nasi timbel,
which consisted of seasoned rice,
Ayam goreng (traditional Fried
chicken), fried tempeh and tofu,
sayur asem (vegetable stew soup),
and top it off with delicious sambal
(Indonesian chili sauce). For the
beverage, try some fresh milk from
Lembang (susu Lembang) which
taste different than regular milk.

Along with its authentic cuisine,
most cafes and restaurants in
Bandung are located between
mountains. When the night starts,
the city lights are scattered
everywhere, giving vibrant colors
to the restaurant's view. Take your
loved one to have romantic dinner
there and pretty sure they will
never forget about it.
3. DIVERSE SHOPPING
Local people in Bandung are
famously known for their endless
creativities. Which means, there
are many kinds of stuffs that you
can buy. Cihampelas and Dago
street are great places to start
the shopping hunt for jeans and
garments. On the other hand, if
you are an art lover, you can find
paintings, traditional statues on
the historical street, Braga. Then,
go to Cibaduyut to get well-made
handcrafted shoes, specially made
by the local craftsmen. Beside its
premium quality, these products
are quite affordable to purchase.
4. LOCAL'S HOSPITALITY
Yes, you heard that right. Like
any other places in Indonesia,
Bandung's local people are
very friendly and nice. They are
not reluctant in offering help to
strangers, and they will be very
delighted to take you sightseeing
around the city. You can meet
them (especially the youths and
young adults) at coffee shop, mall,
lounges, and many more.

When in PIRAN (SLOVENIA)

n the port town of Piran, south-west Slovenia, the

Italy. As the bus winds down the labyrinth and drives
down to the boat jetty, I enter that different world, a
change from the Alpine Slovenia I had experienced
a day earlier. There’s a flotilla of yachts with their masts hoisted
in resemblance to the structure of nearby renaissance buildings
with red roofs. It’s a sunny Friday morning at the beginning of
summer and some shops are already open for business, but most
restaurants are yet to wake up. The water is quite calm and still, so
are the yachts with their symmetrical white appearance.

I walk along the yachts toward
the Taritni Square where life will
be in full swing at mid-day. In the
morning, it is mostly deserted. The
concrete floor and the air around
the Tartini statue are cool. I pause
for a few minutes and snap the
Municipal Building a few times in
the morning brightness.
Here at the Tartini Square, an
oval atmosphere wraps you in a
historical touch. What was once
a harbour for fishing boats, the
Square now attracts tourists and
stands as the face of Piran. The
Town Hall with its white facade is
unmistakably the first to capture
one’s attention. Standing at this
Square I raise my head and get a
snail’s eye view of the tops of the
buildings and the blue summer
sky. Moving a bit further, Giusepe
Tartini comes in between the
tower of St George Church in the
distance and me.
Giusepe Tartini was a Venetian
violinist born in Piran in the 17th
century, at a time when Piran was
part of the Republic of Venice.
Viewing the statue in the same
line with the church tower gave
some photography opportunities.
At a staged angle, you feel like the
violinist’s bow is turning the time
on the tower clock.

criss-cross above my head. Sitting
on my comfortable restaurant

There are no beaches as such in
Piran, but only shallow water areas
close to the land. This has given
birth to creative ways of using the
sea for recreation and sport by the
locals. The picture below gives
ideas of natural swimming pools.
Such ‘pool steps’ are there all
along the esplanade and families
make the most out of a summer
day here.
Yachts and ferries pass by the
port frequently. Somewhere in the
distance, speedboats leave white,
foamy trails in different directions.
Lunch finished, I make my way
to St. George’s Parish Church.
There needs to be a bit of trekking
up before reaching the church.
Here I climb wooden steps inside
(nearly a hundred of them) winding
all along. Once I reach the top of
the bell tower, the bird’s eye view
clears up. I am on the other side
of the Tartini Square now. It feels
like a transformation from life to
existence. Active to Passive.
Towards the west, the red-roofed
village spreads out into the

buildings clustered together as if
it were a show of unity in defence
against a common enemy.
The north-east view provides
some exciting scenes. Down
below, on the church’s fortress
lawns, some tourists take in the
views of the ocean, while a lady
swimmer does a free-style on
translucent water.
Toward the west, a seagull
perches on a concrete cross
making it a vantage point. The
vast blue ocean next to it provides
an excellent background for
viewers from the top. Slovenia
only has about 46 kilometres of
coastal line and Piran is one of the
best places to enjoy the seaview.
The nearby Portoroz, Isola and
Koper are also worth a visit.
I spend more time here than the
other tourists with whom I climbed
to the tower. Ocean views are
charming, soothing and they let
you reflect on your life, wherever
you view them. I notice a seagull
perched on the church cross
for quite a long time. It doesn’t
move, just like the concrete cross
doesn’t. Reflection.

Flight: I flew Lufthansa from Jakarta, Indonesia, transiting in Singapore and

Frankfurt on my way to Ljubljana. Some of the major transits on the way to
Ljubljana are Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Amsterdam. Adria Airways flies
to Ljubljana from all these destinations.

Other tips: If you are in Piran, it is easy to visit Portoroz. There is a shuttle
bus every 20-30 minutes from the bus terminal located next to the boat
jetty. You may take a ride for just 1 Euro. It only takes about 15 minutes to
reach Portoroz.

The narrow streets among the settlements next to the sea in Piran give
you a great chance for photography. The shape of the windows and the
symmetrical structure of buildings are a treat to watch.

you are working on these
days?
Thank you for having me! My
schedule is pretty packed
recently. For Naelofar Hijab, we
are in the midst of preparing
our Raya campaign, which is
basically the highlight of the
year for the label. I have also
just started shooting ‘Tiamo
Sweetheart 100 Hari’, a special
project with Astro Ria for this
coming Raya. Personally, I have
just started working out again,
trying to get back on track,
trying to be active and healthy,
finding the balance in between
all these projects and everything
that is going on in my life.
2. Let’s talk about
earlier days. What do you
remember most about your
childhood in Pasir Mas?
I have just turned 29 so
childhood seems like ages
ago! I was born in Pasir Mas,
Kelantan and stayed there until I
was 6 years old before I moved
to KL. I think the thing that I
remember the most is going to
my grandfather’s house every
Friday, for a family gathering.
My family is very close-knit so
seeing each other on a weekly
basis is a must! And definitely
the food! The people in Pasir
Mas is really all about cooking
good food and enjoying it with
their families! I also remember
the neighbours I had when I
was little, how we would go on
our little adventures, I was very
adventurous, and I still keep in
touch with them.

contest?

I have always dreamt of

continuing my studies in the
States. So when I was 18, I
started modeling, trying out for
commercials and print ads, to
save up for my States dream

5. How does it feel to
actually win such a contest?
Did you expect yourself to
come out first?

Of course I had no
expectations, everyone was
beautiful and so tall, and you
know being tall is one of the
criteria to win a beauty pageant
and I was one of the few short
ones so I didn’t have such high
hopes, and I told myself that
if I didn’t win, this is already a
great platform for me to explore
at that time. And when I won,
it was unexpected but I felt
happy and true enough, winning
Dewi Remaja was actually my
stepping stone, I never thought
in a million years that I would be
in the entertainment industry,
doing what I am doing now, I
thought I would just own my
own business and go about my
day, but never say never!

started to appear in TV
series, shows, as well as
movies. Was it difficult when
you first started? What were
the challenges?
I think I was blessed and lucky,
because a month after winning
Dewi Remaja, I got an offer to
star in a film. I was just starting
out and I had zero knowledge
on acting, and people offered
me a role, which was a big deal
for me. I think the challenge
was adapting to the new
environment, with actors and
directors and people in the
showbiz. Modeling and acting
are two very different things. I
had to learn from scratch how
to act my part, read the scripts
and other things.
7. Do you recall anyone
who helped you much
when you first started your
acting career? In what ways
did the person help you?
Yes, I think it was Aziz M
Osman, because he was the
one who offered me my first
role in Azura. Of course I was
having a hard time, doubting
myself but he believed in me,
he guided me, he taught me a
lot of things, and I was just so
lucky to have him when I first
started out.

for work and believe it or not,
these work trips have given me

Tourism, they always make sure
that I am well taken care of, that
I get to experience the best of
things and services during the
work trips. Also, I get to meet
and network with people from
all over the world, which truly
has opened my eyes and I am
forever grateful for opportunities

One of the outstanding restaurants in Bali that serve this dish is Ayam
Betutu Khas Gilimanuk. This restaurant has six branches in Bali, which
are at Tuban Main Road, Kuta Main Road, Merdeka street, Kediri Main
Road, Buluh Indah street and Denpasar Main Road.

At the Ayam Betutu Gilimanuk restaurant, Betutu is served with plecing

kangkung, sambal matah and fried beans. You can have two options to

is a better option than the fried one.

How much does it cost? Almost as cheap as other Indonesian street

food. For one whole Betutu chicken, plus plecing kangkung, fried beans
and sambal matah, you just have to pay about Rp70,000,-, about 5
dollars.

he foul-smelling toxic plumes were choking me as I

T forced myself to hike up the last leg of the steep

slippery trail. My eyes and my throat were burning from
the thick volcanic fumes. I could feel that my asthma
was started to leave me out of breath.

"Keep going, Debz. You've made it this far. Few more steps....just
few more steps." Firsta encouraged me not to give up.

"You can do it! We are almost there, Debz." Pojie put his hands on
my shoulder to give me some support.

I was feeling dizzy and my legs
were trembling but I refused to
give up. Before the trip I've told
myself that no matter how slow I
walk, I won't stop before reaching
the peak of mount Ijen. I'm so
thankful to Firsta from Discover

Caught a glimpse of Ijen crater
from my window seat
Hiking mount Ijen had been on
my bucket list for a couple years.
When I lived in Bali, I used to fly
between Denpasar and Surabaya
frequently every month. On some
clear days, the plane flied above
mount Ijen and I caught a glimpse
of its turquoise colour crater.
Wow! I was stunned and made a
promise that I will stand on the rim
of the crater one day.

Hiking up on a steep trail in a
complete dark environment was
quite challenging. I had to rely on
Firsta's headlamp which was the
only source of lights. After a while
my eyes adjusted to darkness and
I started to enjoy the quiet and
peaceful surroundings decorated
with countless stars in the skies.
After slightly over 2 hours and
more than 5000 stops later,
we finally reached the rim of
the crater. I needed to rest
because the fumes were getting
overwhelmingly stronger. My eyes
got so sore and teary and I had
difficulty to breath. I knew I've
reached my limit and decided that
it would be risky to force myself
hike down to the crater. I managed
to take some pictures of the

before the three of us moved to a
gully to get some quick nap.
Cotton candy skies
Around 5 am-ish the charcoal
black colour sky became lighter
and soon turned into purple pink
- cotton candy colour. We hiked
up to the sunrise point but again
it was getting harder to breath
so I had to stop. My body just
couldn't stand the altitude and
toxic fumes. Though I never made
it to the sunrise point, it didn't
make my experience less amazing
because the surroundings are just
so beautiful and pictures don't do
it justice. I just sat down on the
rim of the crater and absorbing
the moment. Feeling so grateful to
be able to enjoy such magnificent
nature.

That morning the smoke was quite
intense that I could hardly see the
splendid Ijen crater lake. I was
pretty upset when the guide told
me it usually getting clearer after
8 am. And I was with the last few
of the #TripOfWonders group who
were quite late to reach our hotel.
Because we did take a good time
to enjoy the trek, lol. Well then, I'll
just plan another trip to Ijen soon
and hopefully I'll be able to enjoy a
clear view of the turquoise colour
crater lake..

Besides the phenomenal blue fire,
splendid scenery and the mystical
crater lake, another thing that
intrigues me a lot about mount
Ijen is the mind-boggling story of
sulphur miners. Everyday dozens
of men start working at wee hours,
ascending the 3 km steep trail to
the peak then descending into the
hazardous crater through a rocky
slippery path. After harvesting
they hike up again to the rim
before climb down the mountain
carrying wooden baskets full of
sulphur blocks up to 80 kgs or
even 100 kgs on their shoulder.
Some of them would go back and
forth 2 to 3 times a day in order
to earn more money. They are not
even well equipped, instead of
proper shoes some of them only
wear flip flop and wet

I believe it's one of the toughest
job in the world, yet they earn very
little (only about 8 U.S. cents per
kilo of sulphur) compare to the
dangers they have to face every
single day.

Tranquility
Indonesia, you are so dangerously
beautiful, you never cease to
amaze me. The fact that I've
traveled the world makes me
appreciate more the charm
of my home country. It's
#WonderfulIndonesia indeed.
And mount Ijen is definitely worth
to visit if you plan to travel to
Indonesia. Even if you never hike
before. If I can do it, so can you!

Here's some of the tips I'd like to
share:
1. Make sure you have a good rest
before hiking because if you plan
to catch the blue fire, you will need
to depart from your hotel around
midnight.
2. Wear warm clothes. Layering is
the best as it become pretty hot
by the time you hike down. My
all time favourites are HEATTECH
inner wear from UNIQLO and The
North Face waterproof jacket.
3. A good pair of trekking shoes is
a must, the path is pretty slippery.
My trusted Salomon trail-running
shoes is a life saver.
4. Pack enough water and snacks.
Though there's a small warung
(food stall) on the way, I did pack
some chocolate, biscuits and
wafer.
5. Do bring headlamp and proper
mask.
6. Some of the miners sell
sulphuric art as souvenir. However
you are not allowed to bring it
on board the plane since it's
considered as prohibited items.
I bought a couple of these and
the airport authorities asked me
to remove it from my luggage.

I have almost non existent
experience about mount climbing.
In fact before this trip, I've only
climbed one mountain which was
mount Sinai in Egypt a few years
back. At that time, after reaching
the top of the mountain I felt so
proud of myself. I've conquered
a mountain! And so I thought.
But then I realised it's just
sounds wrong to say conquering
the nature. For me it's not the
mountain but I have conquered
myself. I was over the moon

when this time I finally

reached the top of mount Ijen. I feel like a winner for have beaten my
own weakness. I doubted my abilities from time to time and I proved
it wrong. I thought I wasn't physically and mentally ready but I have
pushed myself beyond the limit I set in my mind. Thank you, mount Ijen
for teaching me that nothing is impossible when I am persistent enough.
All I need is believing in myself. I must quit as my own worst critic and
everything will be alright :)
