Short Term Goals (On-going) Plan to Achieve Goal

-Actively seek information to develop my teaching practice and As I am still a newly qualified teacher, I aim to continue
knowledge. to enhance my knowledge and teaching practice. This
will be done by participating in optional professional
development opportunities (both international
baccalaureate and others), keeping up to date with
current research and findings, joining support groups to
network with other educators (professional twitter
accounts), conducting professional conversations with
more developed teachers to extend my knowledge and
continue my willingness and positive attitude to always
learn and improve my teaching practice.

-Continue to use reflection as a strategy to improve my I believe that reflection is one of the most important
teaching practice. aspects to teaching. Reflecting on my strengths and
weaknesses during my first 4 years of teaching has been
imperative. By daily reflecting on my teaching methods,
differentiating skills, student relationships etc. I am able
to evaluate what components are working and what are
not. During the initial stages of my teaching career,
seeking guidance from more experienced educators as
well as my students has helped me to reflect on my own
teaching methods and make necessary changes.
Reflecting will be a strategy that I will use daily
throughout my career as a professional educator.

-Collaborative effectively with peers to further curriculum Beginning my career at a school transitioning into an IB
development. World School has allowed me to take part in developing
a curriculum which aligns with both IB standards as well
as New Brunswick’s. During this process collaborating
effectively in a vertical team was very important to
insure that students were being taught the material
necessary to be successful in the DP. Next year the
Science department will undergo a major change as all of
the staff members (except myself) will be moving to
different schools. During this phase it will be very
important to collaborate daily with my new team to help
them transition into their new roles and help them feel
comfortable. I look forward to discussing possible new
curriculum ideas with them.

-Develop contextual inquiry based lesson plans centered As I now feel comfortable with the material I am
around technology. teaching, my biggest personal goal is to not allow my
teaching methods to become stale. I firmly believe that
students are more likely to engage in learning when they
can make connections to the real world. Although I have

worked hard to make these connections for students

through hands on inquiry and conceptual/contextual
understanding, I know that I can continue to develop
these materials. As teaching strategies are always
changing and our society becomes more advanced in
technology daily, I will challenge myself to incorporate
these innovative techniques more actively within my
teaching.

Long Term Goal(s) Plan to Achieve Goal

-Develop my leadership skills This year I accepted the position of grade level leader for
the grade 6 and 7 horizontal team. I am really enjoying
this role as I enjoy having the responsibility and leading
others as we work hard to help our students achieve to
their highest potential. Although I do have many skills
that are helping me be successful within this position
(time management, organization, communication etc.), I
still think I have a lot to learn about being in a leadership
role. I know there are many components to becoming a
successful leader, and I would like to challenge myself in
the next 2 years to work hard to understand and develop
these skills. Specifically, as a young leader I would like to
learn strategies for leading more experienced teachers
as well as how to be more confident during difficult
conversations in order to become a more respected
leader.
