It‟s a great honor and pleasure to be able to welcome you to the 11

International Malaysian Educational Technology Convention 2017 (IMETC
2017). I would like to extend my sincere and deepest congratulations to the
Malaysian Educational Technology Association (META) Committee in
coordinating and organizing the yearly International Convention 2017. I am also
happy that META will be in its 30th year of existence, and let‟s make it
memorable and move on as a successful organization.

The theme of the convention “Open Educational Resources (OER) for Future
Learning” is timely as the present educational environment is moving towards
online learning in all levels of education. OER provides freedom in terms of
using digital materials such as complete courses to recorded audio and/or
video lectures, essay questions, discussion topics, reading lists and research
data made available for use, reuse, adaptation, and sharing through open
licenses that allow them to be used free from copyright, so the flow of
knowledge is seamless. This theme will provide a good platform or new
educational horizon for professionals to deliberate on the pros and cons of this
innovative technology to improve instruction, learning and research in
education and training.

What makes IMETC‟s achievements all the more remarkable is that the fact it
started in 1986 as a national yearly convention and move to international
convention in 2007 and continue holding the convention producing excellent
papers and research in instructional design and technology. The yearly
proceedings both printed and digital offer an excellent resource for those
interested in the development of educational technology particularly Malaysia.

So wishing all of you presenters and participants to have a fruitful deliberation

and an enjoyable stay in Marang, Terengganu.

Thank you.

Selamat Datang and Welcome to the 11th International Malaysian Educational

Technology Covention 2017 organized by the Association of Educational
Technology, Malaysia . I would like to congratulate the conference committee
members for organizing this meaningful event.

The theme, „Open Educational Resources For Future Learning‟ and its sub-
themes appropriately reflect the current issues and our concerns. With the aim
to promote Malaysia as an educational hub and the centre of educational
excellence, the convention is seen as a fitting platform to gather both academia
and practitioners to exchange and discuss ideas and perspectives on important
issues and challenges that affect teaching and learning, and education in

Two critical aspects highlighted in the Malaysia Education Development Plan

(2013-2025) are related to providing equal access to quality education to all
students and utilizing ICT to promote quality teaching and learning. As such,
given the nature of today‟s advancement and challenges in adapting to the
21st Century learning, it is pertinent to have this convention that focuses not
only on knowledge sharing but also on how best to utilize open educational
resources for future learning in classrooms.

This meeting of academicians, researchers and practitioner officers from the

Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and teachers, will provide an
excellent opportunity for local and global networking and also disseminating
pertinent findings that have an impact on education. I believe this convention
will provide an avenue for discussions, explorations and understandings of
various aspects of educational technology.

I wish all delegates a fruitful and memorable experience at the 11th Edition of

Thank you

Haji Zaidi Bin Yazid

Forward by
President of the Malaysian Educational Technology Association

I wish everyone a warm welcome to the 11th International Malaysian

Educational Convention 2017 (IMETC2017) organized by the Malaysia
Educational Technology Association (META) held in Marang, Terengganu.

This year convention theme „Open Educational Resources For Future Learning‟
is timely as it envisions our vital role in future learning. As free accessible digital
learning materials available online for everyone to use, OER has play an import
role of supporting the lifelong learning opportunities and providing high quality
educational resources via various platform such as Massive Open Online
Courses (MOOC) and Open Course Ware (OCW). Besides that, OER will also be
one of the important drivers for the success of Education 4.0.

We hope this convention can be the platform to highlight the dire needs of all
the stakeholders in the education system worldwide to congregate, learn, and
share their ideas, innovations, best practice which would be vital in optimizing
the efficiency and efficacy of future learning.

We would like to show our appreciation to all collaborating partners,

organizations and individuals that have made this convention possible. We look
forward to meet everyone again in IMETC 2018.

Thank you.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahizer Hamzah

Forward by
Chair, 11th International Malaysian Educational Technology
Convention (IMETC2017)

On behalf of the organizing committee of IMETC2017, we are honoured to

welcome all of you to the 11th edition of the Convention. The theme selected,
“Open Educational Resources (OER) For Future Learning” attempts to address
the digital educational landscape and the disruptive role of technology and
how open educational resources will transform the classroom of the future.

ICT can no longer be described as information and communication technology

but has now taken a new shift in its functionality due to the pervasive nature
of technology and the capabilities it entails together with the global outreach
that can be achieved. UNESCO considers that ICTs can contribute to universal
access to education, equity in education, the delivery of quality learning and
teaching, teachers‟ professional development as well as improve education
management, governance and administration provided the right mix of
policies, technologies and capacities are in place.

Given that „ICT in Education‟ means „Teaching and Learning with ICT‟, it has
transformed from a mere tool to a functional mechanism that has infiltrated
our lives. In the context of flexible education and lifelong learning, ICT is now
the depiction of Immersive and Collaborative Technogogy, to accentuate
technology into the current digital landscape that we are witnessing now
through the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtualisation,
and the rise of the robots in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). How
„Immersive and Collaborative Technogogy‟ will impact education in the future
is in our hands, and OER is a step in the right direction .. Let‟s get on with it ..

Sincere thanks to all the Keynote Speakers for their insights and to the
academics who took time to produce their papers. Enjoy the Convention and
continue to communicate with each other in the future. Let‟s come back in
2018 to showcase another year of our efforts to leverage on technology to
uplift educational resources to dazzling heights. Till we meet again ..
