And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?

” which is translated,
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Three words before it, and three
words after it.

In fact, dili sija pangutana in the first place.
If you would really look at your Bible, you would know that God actually used this to prove that Jesus is indeed the
Messiah!

The reason why most people don’t see this is because we sometimes read the Bible with one eye closed. Nagapangu-
tana kita nan questions like uno may ini tagsulti about sa ako instead na mangutana kita kun unoy ini taglaong about
sa ato Ginoo.

I believed the Bible is one unified story from beginning to end.
atubangon ang pangutana “Is Jesus really the Messiah?”

In Acts 2:22-23, this was the early years of the church, Peter was delivering his first sermon and as he introduced
Jesus, he said “Men of Israel, here these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, won-
ders, and signs which God did through Him in your mids, as you yourselves also know - Him, being delivered by the
determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to
death.” Determined purpose and foreknowledge, in the New Living Translation it is read as prearranged plan of
God.

You see back in the Garden of Eden, when man and woman fell into sin, it led to death. Not physical death but a spi-
ritual one, an eternal separation from God.

Para iredeem kita, God knew He had to display an incredible amount of love, one that the world would have a hard
time understanding. That is exactly why He needed to provide proof, clues, revelations, so that when it was the time
for Jesus to come, people would understand.

Kinahanglan nato masabtan na tagplano ini tanan. God didn’t just decide on a whim one day saying na dili na gajud
No! Didto pa sa Garden of Eden, He knew we needed
to be rescued.

That’s the importance of the Old Testament.

In the words of Augustine, “The Old is the New concealed. And the New is the Old revealed.”

Hilig kita nan Memory Verse, which I believe
is patterned after the traditions of the Jews. Sila sab, hilig sila nan memory verse. They do public reading of Scrip-
ture. For exam-
ple, In the beginning, God created... (the heavens and the earth). For God so loved the world, that He gave His
only begotton Son... and so on and so forth.

Jesus, on calvary uttered “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani which means My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?”
Today brothers, we will be studying Psalm 22, which says in verse 1, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken
Me?” and I continue, Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?

This Psalm is one of the two greatest prophecies concerning the crucifixion. Written by David almost 1000 years
Verse 2, O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear. Matthew 27:46, In about the ninth hour, Jesus cried
with a loud voice. Ang ninth hour alas tres sa hapon, referring that God cried out during the daytime.

Still verse 2 of Psalms 22, And in the night season, and am not silent. Matthew 27: 45, Now from the sixth hour un-
til the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.

Verse 3, But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel. This is the answer we need! God is too holy He cannot
look upon sin! Isaiah said God’s hand is not short that He cannot save me, neither is His ear heavy that He cannot
hear but your sins have separated you from God. Still in Isaiah, God laid on Him the iniquities of us all. And in the
New Testament we learn, He who hath no sin, became sin in our place.

Jesus bore the sins of the past, the present and the future generations on that cross.
He needed to die because God is holy. The wages of sin is death and in order to redeem you from
death, God required the sacrifice of life. Hebrews 9:22, Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of
sins.

Verses 4 to 5, They trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You,
and were not ashamed. This reminds us of the Exodus aton tagfree ng Ginoo ang mga Israelites from slavery and
when they had the first Passover.
matay ilang first born sons? God spared them. And I believe this was mentioned because Jesus’ crucifixion was the
day before the Sabbath of Passover, just in time for the lamb to be sacrificed to God.

Verse 6 But I am a worm, and no man. Taglaong sa Isaiah 52:14, His
face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.

But at the same time, did you know that the Hebrew for worm is tola’at, variety or parte ini sija sa family nan
tole’ah which is what the ancient world used to produce the color scarlet.
Then in Matthew 27:28, it was revealed that ila tagsukbutan si Jesus nan scar-
let robe. Indeed, Christ is no man because He is God.

In verses 7 to 8, All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake their head...

Shake their head in Greek is ekinesan kephalen, the same words used in Matthew 27:39, And those who passed by
blasphemed Him, wagging their heads.

Verse 8, “He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” look at Mat-
thew 27:41, Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders said, “He saved others; Himself He
cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. Verse 43,
He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’

Verse 12, Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. The place of Bashan is re-
lated to pride and self-righteousness, a clear image of the Pharisees, scribes, priest and elders of Jesus’ day. Verse
13, They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. Lion, dear brothers and sisters, according to
many Old Testament texts has been used to refer to the tribe of Judah, the symbol for the Jews who were at that time
shouting ‘Crucify Him! Crucify Him!’

Verse 14 I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; Kabayo kamo jaon sa cross kung uno ray
nagpugong sa imo? Lansang ra! Sa kamot sa tiil. Then imagine kung isaka na jaon. Ang pull nan gravity sa imo
lawas. Imagine how your joints would feel?

My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. Ako tagconsult si Dr. Loloy Fuertes pag-abot diani kay I remember
watching a movie that my dad suggested. It’s called Case for Christ, jaoy didto brief medical explanation kung tag-
uno pagkamatay si Jesus. I can’t be sure about this because I am not a medical doctor so I consulted Dr. Fuertes and
I looked at medical journals online.

The day when Jesus was crucified was the day before the great Sabbath of the Passover Feast and because they had
a law that a body should not be hanging on a Sabbath day, niadto ang mga chief priests sa kan Pontius Pilato ug ni-

He took his spear and thrust it to His heart and when
he did, there poured out blood mixed with water.

A cardiologist believed that Jesus did not die of the crucifixion. Part sija sa cause but not the direct cause. Theolo-
gians supported this with the verse in John 10:18 “No one takes my life from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have
power to give it up and the power to take it back again, just as My Father commanded Me to do”

According kan Dr. Loloy, this could be caused by something called Pleural Effusion, tungod sa trauma na nabati ni
Jesus, the water surrounding the lungs could have been what poured out adton tagtusok ang spear. Based sa akong
research, evangelical doctors believed he died of stress-induced cardiomyopathy or sa simpleng storya “brokenheart
syndrome”.

In verse 14 we read, I am poured out like wtr, And all My bones are out of join; My heart is like wax; It has melted
within Me. Again, I am reminding everyone that I am a teacher, not a medical professional.

Verse 16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands
and My feet. WOW! 1000 years before the Romans invented crucifixion, David prophesied about it in Psalms 22.
Amazing, amazing literary work by God.

Verse 18, They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. We know in John 19:23-24
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and
also the tunic. Now the tunic was seamless, woven from the top in one piece. They said therefore among them-
selves, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says:
They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.”

Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s prophecy. He had to be forsaken by the Father. He was the TRUE replacement of
Isaac who was supposed to be sacrificed by his father Abraham thousands of years before in the SAME mountain
range that Jesus was crucified.

To end, I’d like to walk you through the tabernacle carefully detailed in Exodus 26-31. Remember when I said Jesus
had a seamless tunic? The High Priest who was to offer sacrifices for the Day of Atonement conducted only once a
year by the Jews for the forgiveness of sins was also required to wear a seamless robe.

As you can see, the Tabernacle itself represents Jesus. There is a fence, representing that to be a Christian, you must
be separated from this world. One gate representing that there is only one way to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
There you have the Altar of the Burnt Offering where animals were sacrificed same as how Jesus was sacrificed.
You have a tent that has two rooms inside: The Outer Room and the Inner Room where the Holy of Holies is. The
only thing separating the outer and inner room is a veil. Only the High Priest can enter the Holy of Holies once a
year. This is where God’s presence is. In the outer room, you have the Lampstand, representing that Jesus is the light
of the world. You have the Table for the Showbread, Jesus is the Bread of Life. You have the Incense representing
the prayerful nature of Jesus. Now the veil is a marvelous thing. We learn in Exodus that this is the only material
separating the Outer Room from the Holy of Holies and in Matthew 27: 50-51 it says, And Jesus cried out again
with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
Do you know what’s interesting? This veil is made from fine white linen with blue, purple and scarlet threads.

Blue representing Jesus’ heavenly nature. Scarlet or red representing the blood of His sacrifice. White representing
His spotless purity. And purple representing His royalty. We learned in elementary, even in kindergarten that purple
is a combination of blue and red. He was King through heavenly appointment but enthroned to suffering. When
Jesus died, He tore down the veil so we can approach the Father through Him. Heaven is on earth, not through a
temple or a church, but in the words of I Corinthians 6:19 Do you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy
Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by the Lord?
