is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of
10.

Differentiated Students are in a resource classroom which is a small group setting. Students will be working
Instruction together to review a prior topic.

EEI (ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF INSTRUCTION) - LESSON PLAN ELEMENTS REQUIRED:

Objective I can multiply and divide decimals by 10, 100, 1000.

As a warm-up to allow the students to come into the classroom, the students will have two
Anticipatory Set problems on the whiteboard that they will be solving. One will be a decimal multiplication
problem and a decimal division problem. This will be used as a post-assessment to see where
the students understand is.

The class as a whole will discuss and review the direction the decimal will move whether you

are multiplying or dividing. The class also review what power of 10 mean. An example would
Model
be what does 10^3 mean (10x10x10 or 1000).

The students will be working in pairs to solve problems on the board. This will look different
Guided Practice depending on how many students are in class that day. As a pair, they will solve the
problem. One group will be picked to come up to the board and show how they solved it
while the other student will explain how the solved the problem.
Independent The teacher will give students a couple of problems to solve on their own. When the first
Practice student has a correct answer, they will help the other students if they need the help and
tell them if they have the correct answer.

Closure At the end of the lesson, the class will have I quick review of what direction the decimal
moves and how many times it will move depending on the number.

The students will be given one last problem as an exit ticket to check for understanding.
Evaluation The problem will be done on paper and the student will be putting their paper in certain
*Assessment/Rubrics bin. If the student puts it in #1 that means they don’t get it at all, #2 means I sort of
get it, #3 is I get it, and #4 is I can teach it.
