efficiency Highly Efficient Power Transmission with Low Fuel Consumption

To meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations around the world, there is a need to efficiently convert
fuel into kinetic energy, and reduce emissions of gases such as CO2. Key Components
We have developed engine technologies such as direct injection and valve timing control that greatly increase
the efficiency of internal combustion engines. In addition, we use simulation and analysis technologies to
continually refine our components, improve engine thermal efficiency, and produce clean engines with a reduced

outstanding performance, our technologies also provide optimal drive control. Our direct injection gasoline (DIG) technology is enabled by
fuel pumps that provide precise fuel injection control. Furthermore, our valve timing control (VTC) technology continuously varies the G Transmission Control Unit

electrification Eco-friendliness with Outstand ing Driving Performance

In recent years, vehicle electrification has seen remarkable progress, due in part to environmental regulations on
zero-emission vehicles. In addition to Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV),
and Electric Vehicles (EV), Mild Hybrid Vehicle systems using 48 volt electricity are starting to appear. Key Components
Vehicle electrification systems will prove essential for meeting environmental regulations. In addition to the main
electric powertrain components of electric motors, inverters, and lithium-ion batteries, we are developing other
technologies to maximize eco-friendliness and driving performance.
A Motor for Electric Vehicles
Key Technologies B Inverter for Electric Vehicles
C Lithium-ion Battery Pack
■ Electric Powertrain Solutions
D Starter for Idle Stop System
In order to respond to the growing demand for electric powertrains, we aim to address various market needs by developing technologies
such as electric motors, inverters, and lithium-ion batteries. We use rectangular wiring to create motors that produce high torque with a
reduced torque ripple, yet remain very compact.
In addition, by using double-sided direct-cooling power modules, we can produce compact and lightweight inverters with a high output,
thereby meeting a diversity of needs.

■ Lithium-ion Batteries for Electric Vehicles

A key to improving the performance of electric vehicles is improving the performance of lithium-ion batteries by reducing charging time
while increasing output and capacity. We can meet a wide variety of system solution needs, from 48V lithium-ion battery packs that offer
both high output density and high energy density for use in Mild Hybrid systems that assist gasoline engines, to batteries for High-voltage
Hybrid systems.

intelligence Toward a Future Where Autonomous Vehicles Can “See”and “Think”

Expectations are increasing for safe, comfortable, and highly efficient autonomous driving systems that can eliminate Key Components
accidents, reduce driver workload, and resolve traffic congestion, thereby helping to achieve a smart mobility society.
In order to realize a safe and secure autonomous driving system, we are developing a 360 degree sensor fusion
system that can detect the surrounding situation by integrating sensor data from sources such as stereo cameras and
radars. Data from this system is used by our autonomous driving ECU to make instantaneous decisions on
acceleration, deceleration, and lane-changing.

Key Technologies

■ Sensing Technology for Autonomous Driving

A 360 degree sensing system that simultaneously recognizes surrounding vehicles is
essential to realize autonomous driving.
On-board cameras and radars are used for omnidirectional sensing. The information
obtained is centrally managed using sensor fusion processing. With this technology, we seek
to achieve autonomous driving not just on expressways, but also on public roads. A Millimeter-wave Radar F Map Positioning Unit

control Integrating Vehicle Motion for Autonomous Driving

Chassis products determine the basic functions of automobiles - moving, turning and stopping.
By coordinating and harmonizing the chassis with various control technologies, we can count on improved safety
and comfort.
In order to aim for an even higher level of safety, the core elements of brakes, steering, and suspension have
been electrified and subjected to electronic control. We created a system that completely integrates all aspects Key Components
of vehicle motion. The aim of this system is to improve motion performance by responding in real-time to
changes in the state of tires, road surface and the vehicle itself, as well as to achieve autonomous driving, which
requires coordinated driving control. A Electric Power Steering

■ Electric Power Steering Systems

With integrated electronics, our power steering system features a small brushless electric motor that enables effortless handling of the
steering wheel compared to hydraulic systems. Thus, our system can be utilized for autonomous driving functions such as parking assist
through automated steering. The steering system features multiple sensors and drive circuits, resulting in a redundant design that prevents
total loss of steering in the event of breakdown.

connected Automotive Society Enters a New Era

Our society increasingly needs automobiles that meet high standards in such areas as environmental conservation,
accident elimination, mobility support for the elderly, traffic congestion reduction, and comfort improvements.
To meet these needs, automobiles will become more connected, thereby increasing the value of autonomous
driving and propelling automotive society toward a new era.
In order to create new value by linking automobiles and society through connectivity, we offer an integrated suite
that combines our environmental, safety, and information technologies with the social infrastructure and services
of the Hitachi Group. The resulting solution can provide autonomous driving technology offering comfort, safety,
security, and eco-friendliness.
