School Operations, Resources, Learning Environment Report

It is critical for principals to allocate resources and manage school operations in order to

ensure a safe and productive learning environment. During my internship, I am committed to

taking on more of a leadership role to support my principal and colleagues in providing a safe

and productive learning environment for students.

Each morning, we start with our school Mission Statement, which states: “Every day we

show respect for our school and one another, through hard work and organization, we strive to

reach our goals. We celebrate our achievements and take responsibility for our actions and our

learning. Bissell Tigers ROAR (Respect, Organization, Achievement, Responsibility)!”

Additionally, we remind students to use their GRIT – “Give it your all, Respond with a positive

attitude, be an Independent thinker, and be Totally engaged in all you do”. This is a great way to

start the day and promote a positive learning environment. As part of my internship, I have

helped to provide teachers with resources and create lessons to better educate our students in the

areas of respect, responsibility, organization, achievement, and safety.

As a member of the Curriculum Committee, I helped to discuss the district’s Continuous

Improvement Plans and voted to adapt the important documents. Each of the plans focus on

Reading, Math, and Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) for students with

disabilities, economically disadvantaged students, African American students, and gifted

students. The purpose of PBIS is to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and equality of

schools. It improves social, emotional, and academic outcomes for all students. Samuel Bissell
Elementary School’s 2017-2018 PBIS goal is “By 2018, Samuel Bissell Elementary School will

continue to incorporate a PBIS curriculum, which includes classroom lessons and school climate

initiatives.”

In order to promote and implement a school-wide system for behavioral support and

intervention, we create and follow specific action steps including:

 Classroom teachers will instruct quarterly lessons in the areas of responsibility,

respect, achievement, organization and safety.

 Students displaying positive behaviors will receive Golden Paw Tickets, which will

be counted towards individual/classroom rewards.

 Students displaying positive behaviors will be given raffle tickets, which afford them

the opportunity to win various prizes from the office.

 Students will receive “Random Acts of Kindness” Doves when they perform an act of

kindness. They will also be recognized over the morning announcements, receive a

prize and their parents will also be contacted.

 Samuel Bissell Elementary School’s “Community of Caring” initiative will include

classroom teachers, as well as Twinsburg City School District personnel from various

buildings/departments.

 Samuel Bissell Elementary School partners with Beech Brook staff to provide

additional support and services to students and families.

 Zones of Regulation training for staff and administrators will take place during the

2017-2018 school year.

As part of my internship, I have helped to create these lessons to better instruct our students

in the areas of respect, responsibility, organization, achievement, and safety. I reward

students in my class, as well as others, for displaying positive behaviors. I participate in the

Community of Caring initiative, where students and staff come together to eat lunch and talk

about making positive choices. We also further discuss the ideas of respect, responsibility,

achievement and organization. I meet with the Beech Brook counselor often to discuss ways

to help our students and provide beneficial services. I have been working diligently to bring

the Zones of Regulation Program to our school with teacher resources, visuals, bulletin

boards, and SmartBoard activities. All of these action steps help to establish and maintain a

safe school environment and productive learning environment.
