Short Story Discussion Day 2

Lesson #: 10 Class Time: 50 min

Lesson Objective:
 Students will be able to analyze short stories and discuss their themes.
 This means that I will be able to read short stories, identify common themes, and discuss
them with my peers.
Language Objective:
 The lesson objective will be written on the board and read aloud to the class. The Writing
prompt will also be written on the board and be read aloud to them.

Standard:
12.3.1.d. Manipulate elements of style, imagery, tone, and point of view to appeal to the sense
and emotions of the reader.
12.2.1.e. Evaluate how literary components impact meaning.

Differentiation:
 The differentiation in this lesson lies in the style of discussion. Not only will the students
have the opportunity to create their own discussion questions, but the teacher will have
extra questions in case of a lull in conversation. These questions are the same as the last
short story discussion day because the sheet may have new questions that the teacher
writes down.

1. Using what we know about stories and story-telling, how can we evaluate the texts that
we have read so far?
2. What is an example of a strong character? Why are they a good example?
3. How can we utilize an escapist reading of the texts we are reading in class?
4. What elements of fantasy have been pulled into the short stories we have read for class?
