Outcome 1

They were many history events learned throughout the course which caught my

interest and I also noticed how some of those events have had an effect on my life as a

Mexican American. One example of someone i enjoyed doing throughout the course

was looking at and analyzing daily news articles related to hispanics. One for example

was the problem farmers were having in Northern Utah. How they were struggling to

find people willing to work the fields. This struggles leads farmers to have to sell their

farm lands to developers, and that was causing the price in fruit to rise as well.

Another historical event that had a great impact on the Mexican American culture

was the movement Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta pushed for the farm workers.

This movement lead to fairer treatment and pay for the farmworkers. To this day there

are still recognized although they haven't really raised the wages for the farmers

recently.

Outcome 2

I believe I learned how to build communication skills throughout this course. This

was a course that requires a lot of communication whether that was being asked for my

opinion in class or presenting a poster board. One example of work that required

professional communication both verbally and written was that of preparing a poster

board and presenting the topic chosen. In my case my work was on higher education

within the hispanic community.

One assignment we were given throughout the semester was to give a synthesis

on a thesis and antithesis. This assignment required analyzation on a contemporary

reality. We had to then summarize to different opinions, then provide our own opinion
based on analysis and synthesis. This was a challenging assignment, nmy report was

based on whether the wall Donald Trump plans to build is a good idea or not.

Outcome 3

Throughout the course analyzing data was essential in having a analytical and

factual view on things. On my project i had to work on I had to use graphs to

demonstrate the percentage of Mexican Americans finishing college with a bachelor's

degree. This and other graphs helps gather information and come up with educated

statements regarding certain issues.

Another prime example of how gathering data and analyzing it helped me write a

report was on how land owners couldn't get willing laborers. Because they couldn't get

farmers, they had to sell their lands. This made the supply of fruit less which caused its

price to go up. Many people were against raising the wages for the farmers thinking it

would raise the price of fruits and vegetables. What the data actually showed is that it

would raise the price by barely anything.

Outcome 4

The assignment in which we had form a position was the anti synthesis and

thesis paper. My assignment was based on the criminal activity of Immigrants. A Lot of

this was based on President Trump's statement that the people coming through the

border are rapist and criminals. The two documents provided are both sides of the

argument.
One of the articles states that The immigrants coming in are indeed criminals and

that the rise in immigrants coming in also raises the rise of criminal activity in the

country. Both the Arguments use data and one claims that the data the opposing

argument uses is incorrect and inflated. The position i had was that there had to be a

control on criminal activity but immigrants coming in aren't necessarily criminals. I know

way to many people who are undocumented and live normal citizen lives, a lot more

than those who are criminals.

Outcome 5

For this learning outcome we had to analyze different art murals found locally in

Salt Lake. These art murals contain different messages anywhere from political

statements to cultural and religious messages. We had to decipher and analyze these

messages. From why they are in certain locations and what is the message behind it.

For this assignment we analyzed mainly murals.

Murals were a form of expressing art in public places where a lot of people can

see it. The thought behind a mural was that its art that isn't kept in a museum.

Throughout this assignment I gained a appreciation for the messages and statements

behind these images. The express the importance of roots and cultural. Some are

empowering and reminding of rights we have now because people have for them.
