NOTES ON MEDIEVAL ENGLISH LITERATURE (30/04/18)

John Wyclif: one of the reformers of the 14th century. He translated the Bible from Latin into
English.

The peasants’ revolt: peasants had to pay according to the amount of members in the family.
However, the census used for that payment was before the Black Death, so families made of 5
members that later on were 2 members had to pay for 5 members. This situation, along with
the increasing amount of money that the king needed to pay his army for the 100 years war,
pushed the Peasants Revolt.

A very alliterative poem.

Allegorical figures: abstractions in the form of normal, customary people.

C. S. Lewis wrote the Allegory of Love and revisited the 1st half of the medieval ages.
