Unit 65 – Digital Web Animation Assignment 3 – Checklist

Explain how you used the following:

Range How Used Screenshot evidence

Workspace: stage, timeline, menu I used the stage in multiple ways while creating my web
bar, toolbar, library, colour banner such as putting everything in place and making
palettes, properties, preferences, sure that everything works. The timeline allowed me to
help. see what was there for me to use, and if something
wasn’t there I would know that I would need to import
it. The toolbar included useful assets which I used such
as the colour palettes which is where I can change
colours and mix colours, this all depends on my
preferences.

Basic tools: drawing, eg pencil, There are a lot of different tools that I can use to create
line, pen, brush, shapes; free my web banner, however I used most of these different
transform, eg rotate, skew, distort, tools in Adobe Photoshop when I was creating my logo
scale, envelope, ruler and and background. I used the shape tool when I was
guidelines; editing, eg lasso, creating my logo, because I had to create a circle to put
eraser, undo, copy, paste, around the text, I also used the brush tool after that to
duplicate, insert, delete, aligning, soften the edges and make it look more aesthetically
grouping, ungrouping pleasing to the audience. I rotated and free
transformed the logo when I was working on it to make
it easier when editing to get to different places in the
shape. I didn’t use a ruler and guidelines when creating
anything, however to do this in Adobe Photoshop there
is a tab at the top which says “view” and then in that
tab there are options for rulers and guidelines, this
basically helps you to be more accurate when creating
anything. I dint use the eraser when creating anything
however to do use the eraser you just select the eraser
tool in the toolbar and rub what you want out. I did
these next things a lot when creating my logo and
background which was to undo, copy, paste, duplicate,
insert and delete. To undo something, you can do it
manually by selecting file, then undo or the quicker way
by selecting Ctrl Z. To copy something, you can do it the
manual way by right clicking something and selecting
copy, to do it the fast way you must select Ctrl C. To
paste anything there are two ways to do it, the manual
way is to select file, then paste, and the quick way is to
select Ctrl V. To duplicate something, you must locate
your layers and select duplicate. To insert something,
you must select file, then insert. To delete something
just right click and delete, this works both for Adobe
Photoshop and Macromedia Director.

Objects: symbols, eg instances, I dint use any of these objects however to do this it is
duplicating symbols, swapping quite simple. To duplicate symbols, you must convert
symbols, editing, grouping the selected elements to a symbol, then create an
empty symbol, duplicate a symbol using the library
panel, then duplicate a symbol by selecting an instance
and finally edit a symbol in place.
Colour tools: eg colour properties, When I was creating my logo, I had to use a variety of
eyedropper, creating custom different colour tools and colour properties. I used the
colours, colour swatches, stroke eyedropper tool multiple times to make sure that I was
and fill using the exact same colour throughout the logo. The
eyedropper tool basically allows you to select any
colour and then start using that colour, this was a useful
tool that I used. I didn’t use any custom colours in my
logo however if I wanted to I would just select the
colour tool and blend some colours together that I
wanted. I didn’t use any colour swatches however if I
did I would have selected the swatches tab in the top
right corner of the page and selected some colours
together. Finally, I used the stroke tool with the brush
tool to make the logo colours blend well together, and
the fill tool to colour select an entire area and fill it in a
specific colour, in this case green.

Text tools: text, eg editing, When I was creating my logo and web banner, I used
moving, rotating, reshaping, various text tools such as text. I used text for the title of
scrolling, creating text blocks, the web banner and logo, names of places that they will
converting text to shapes be preforming at, date of the event and a user
instruction, I could edit the text by selecting the text
tool and then selecting the text to change something.
To move the text, I had to select the move tool and
then I could move the text around both on Adobe
Photoshop and Macromedia Director. To rotate the
text, I had to select edit, then free transform and finally
I could rotate the image, shape or text. To reshape text
at the top of the photoshop page there are different
options such as the font size and style, colour, bold and
more to make the text different. To make text be
scrolling on Macromedia Director it is quite easy, all you
must do is select the text tool and type in the text you
want, then select the text and go to the text tab on the
right had side of the page and finally change the
framing to scrolling and you will have a scrolling text
box. Furthermore, to create text blocks you must make
sure that the stage is set to classic and not default, then
select and shape that you want, then select inside it and
type in what you want and you will have a text block.
Finally, I didn’t use this feature in Adobe Photoshop
however to convert text to shapes you must right click
on the text layer and choose convert to shape, then
select direct selection tool which is the white arrow tool
by pressing Shift A and then by clicking and dragging the
points in the path to give the characters a new shape.
Manipulating objects: I didn’t use any of these tools however if I manipulated
manipulating vector shapes; single vector shapes I would have gone to the layer’s panel,
layer vector shape interaction; then select the layer which contains the vector mask I
transforming and grouping vector want to edit, then click the vector mask button in the
shapes properties panel or the thumbnail in the paths panel,
and finally I would change the shape using the shape,
pen or direct selection tools. To manipulate single layer
vector shapes is basically the same thing and finally to
transform and group vector shapes you just select edit,
free transform and then you can transform an image
and to group an image you select the group option in
the layers at the bottom.

Animation: frame label; frame There are a lot of animation options that I used in
rate; timeline (playhead, layers, Macromedia Director. The frame label and frame rate is
frames, frame rate, basically just a number that tells you how fast the
keyframes, onion skinning, animation will be playing so I could either slow it down
markers); frame manipulation, eg or speed it up, I made the frame rate 12 frames per
copying, deleting, reversal; second. The timeline is where you place all the layers
testing movies; frame by frame such as images, text and animation, to add anything to
animation; tweening (shape, the timeline you first must import it to the cast list, to
motion) do this you must select file, then import, then add each
image, text or animation that you want, then select
import and finally select and drag each asset into the
timeline in a suitable place for editing. Keyframes are
very important when editing in Macromedia Director
because this tells the timeline when you want
something to play and stop, for example at the end of a
page or section at the top of the asset is called the
keyframe, with this you want to double click it then
type in some coding which says, “go to the Frame”,
then close it and you would have added a keyframe. To
copy or delete anything from the timeline or cast list
you just need to right click and select copy or delete. To
use tweening in Macromedia Director you must go to
the properties tab for a sprite in the frame keyframes
and let director change the properties in the frames in
between, in other words select a sprite, then select
modify, then sprite and finally select tweening.
Assets: importing, eg raster I had to work with a lot of different assets when
images, vector images, sound files, creating my web banner. To import all the assets I had
video files, movie clips; select file, then import, then add all the images, text or
resizing; bitmap to vector animation that I wanted and select import, this would
conversion; asset libraries then allow me to drag and drop these assets from the
cast list into the timeline to edit. In Macromedia
Director, I can use either raster images or vector images
however vector images would be better quality, the
reason I used raster images is because vector images
can take up a lot of space and could slow done the
animation. I didn’t use any sound or video clips but if I
was going to I would go onto YouTube and find a
suitable sound or video clip and then convert it to a
MP3 or MP4 depending on the clip, and finally I would
import it into Macromedia Director and add it into the
web banner. When I was resizing images and text to
make it fit inside the web banner all I had to do was
drag any side of the four corners of the image down or
up to meet my satisfaction. Finally, my assets were
located in the cast list and ready for me to use them in
the timeline.
Advanced tools: scenes; guide I used a lot of different advanced tools while creating
layers; masking, eg mask layers, my web banner. I used two software’s which were
animated masks; timeline effects, Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Director, on Adobe
eg blur, drop shadow, expand, Photoshop I had to use layers. A layer is the term used
explode, transform, transition; to describe the different the levels at which you can
nesting movie clips place an object or image file. In the program you can
stack, merge or define layers when creating a digital
image. Similar to layers there is something called a layer
mask, there are two primary types of masks in
Photoshop which are layer masks and clipping masks,
layer masks use values of gray to assign levels of
transparency to specific portions of a layer or group of
layers while clipping masks use transparency of one, to
define that of a different layer or group of layers. In
Adobe Photoshop, there are a lot of different filters and
effects that I can use to make a boring image into
something better and exciting, for example some of the
filters that I can use are called blur and shadow effects.
To transform an image, you have to select edit, then
transform and you will be able to transform an image or
text. In Macromedia Director, I used some transition
effects to make images and text appear, to do this you
have to go to the behaviours tab and choose and
transition and then drag it onto an image or text and
then you will have a transition effect.
Interactivity: scripting; behaviours; In Macromedia Director, there was a lot of interactivity
actions; triggers; buttons; options that I could use. I used a lot of scripting while I
rollovers; playback control; was creating my web banner to make everything work,
preloaders scripting basically tells the computer where you want
something to go when played. The only behaviours that
I used was transition effects to make the images and
text slide into web banner. I didn’t use many actions,
triggers or buttons, however what I did do was I made a
trigger on the Twitter, Instagram and Facebook logo’s,
this allowed you to select one and it would take you to
the selected social media. Furthermore, I didn’t use any
playback control buttons because I didn’t use a video
however if I was going to do this I would have got a play
and stop button of the internet and made it have a
trigger so the video would stop and play. Finally, I used
a rollover image animation rather than a video as it fit
well in my web banner, In the rollover image animation
I included four images relevant to the Pixels band, to
add a rollover image you can find it under the
behaviours tab.
