WHAT IS DARPA?
The Defence Advanced Reasearch Projects Agency
(DARPA) is an advanced technology branch of the
U.S Department of Defense. The purpose of the
agency is to try out new technologies and make
them operationally ready, if possible and to reach
beyond current military technology to do
something new.

At Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, they do a small trial on 15 patients. “Prosthetic
memory” implant helped patients improve short-term memory by an average of 35
percent – a “substantial improvement” according to lead research Robert Hampson. “We
were not surprised to find that this worked, but what surprised us was how successful it was.”

The researchers asked patients to memorize and recall lists of nous. The
stimulation was aimed at the lateral temporal cortex – a part of the brain associated
with word recall. Some recall tests were performed with the device on while in
others the devide was off and it seemed to work. On average, researchers say
participant’s recall performance improved about 15 percent when it was on.
