To obtain a position as an English Middle School teacher, so I may further my career as an educator. Furthermore,
my intention is to fulfill the school’s mission of creating an inclusive and developmentally responsive environment,
so we may nurture the young, adolescent mind, body and spirit of all students.

EXPERIENCE
STUDENT T EACHING | LESHER MIDDLE SCHOOL
Cooperating Teacher: Tiffany Ramirez January 2018 – Current
I designed and co-designed engaging lessons for six sections of 8th grade Language Arts and one class as an
Extended Learning Opportunity. Each class involved students in collaborative projects with units of study based on
standards across all contents. I planned lessons that met the needs of various learning styles through differentiation
by making modifications, accommodations and extensions. To assess student’s prior knowledge or to check for
understanding, I reviewed student’s formative assessments and would adjust my teaching accordingly to focus on
areas that required clarified instruction. I participated in weekly team meetings, monthly staff meetings, school
events, writing adoption, and the CCIRA conference.
I created multiple lessons for a section of 9th grade Language Arts which included students actively researching,
analyzing and producing texts. We discussed literary devices within short stories in addition to reading a novel. As
we read mentor texts, students identified various devices and how the author used that tool to improve the story.
Students then wrote their own story where they demonstrated their knowledge of literary devices. I learned about
the importance of ensuring that diverse perspectives are brought into the classroom consistently throughout the
semester.
I organized activities and facilitated mini-lessons for a 7th grade Language Arts class, students collaborated with
each other and learned how to communicate more effectively. I developed my ability to scaffold the content in a
way that was accessible to all learners through providing options. I learned how helpful it can be to model the work
you request students to do, so you have an exemplar and you can see where your instruction could be clearer.
