Basic knowledge change over

All tasks must be prepared. Safety equipment, tool and spare

parts must be ready at the machine. Before installation of the
Preparation change over components (Stretch/Blow Mold, Mask plate, etc..)
they must be inspected for damage

Mechanical change over Content of this Basic training

All tasks are checked during the change over, so that the machine
Check change over can be started with no faults.

Start the machine and adjust it until the bottle conforms to the
specification. The person doing the change over carries out the
Machine start essential quality check and authorizes the pre-release. (Samples
are taken after the subsequent adjustments)

The QAL (Quality Assurance Local) carries out all tests

QAL - check required and authorizes the final release for production of
the item.

The machine is now transferred to the production, so that

the item can be produced for as long as the planning
Transformer to production department has scheduled.
With it, the change over is completed.

Basic knowledge change over

What is a change over?

In ALPLA, change over is understood as the change over of an stretch blow moulding
machine from one article to another article.

By change over, we differ between two cases:

 Complete change over: Preform supply + heater + stretch/blow moulds + bottle

transport.

 Partly change over: only Stretch/blow moulds (if same neck is used).
 Partly change over: Stretch/blow moulds + vacuum sleeves + preform bowl (same
neck – different preform height is used).

The planning department decides which change over is to be carried out, with regard to
the orders of the customer.

6
Basic knowledge change over

What will be changed over and when?

Based on the customers requirements, the planning department prepares a production

order. The order goes to the production management and from there to the change
over team. The order must contain all the required information for the change over:

 Change over to which article?

 Which raw material (preform and packaging material) has to be used for the new
article?

 Is additional equipment necessary (preform spray treatment system, etc.)?

 Which machine has to be changed over?

 When has to be changed over.

7
Basic knowledge mechanical change over

What does mechanical change over consist of?

 The following assemblies are affected by the mechanical change over of

the ALS 6. There are three main groups:

 Preform supply: tipper, hopper, preform orientation (arranger rollers), preform

slide, separator infeed (3 curves, wheel), separator fingers, cycle balance,
preform cup, rotating table (orientation).

 Heating: attaching unit, heater fingers, IR-lamps, reflectors, cooling bars,

height control.

 Processing unit: swivel unit, linear unit, stretch blow mould, blow nozzle,
stretch rod, removal unit, testing unit.

What is a ALS 6?

The ALS 6 is an stretch blow moulding machine for bottles with a capacity of up to 2l
volume. Built by the company Soplar s.a.. ALS stands for
“Automatic linear Stretchblowmoulding machine”. The type designation is 6, which
means max. 6 cavities possible.

What is a preform (-feed) supply

The preforms are delivered in large pallet boxes, gaylords or barred boxes. The boxes
are placed into the tipper. The tipper lifts the boxes automatically up and allows the
preforms to fall into the preform hopper. The hopper transports them to the belt which
feeds them to the preform orientation before the slide.

Preform separator – allocation

Preforms get separated by the separator wheel and then picked up by separator fingers
which transport them to the cycle balance unit.

Preform Separator – Cycle balance

The function unit "Cycle Balance" has the task to convert the preform feed from
"continuous" to "cycled“. For this, the cycle balance moves parallel to the motion of the
allocation. As soon as both movements are synchronized, the preforms are transferred
to the vacuum sleeves and from there to the rotary table.

Rotating table
The rotating table cycles 90° each time and so transports the Preforms to the function
unit "attaching unit“.
If necessary the preform can be aligned at this workstation by using different fingers
and additional equipment.

In the oven the preforms are heated up until they

reach the right core temperature for the stretch

 Preform (chain) speed
Infrared lamps
 preform rotation

Blow moulds

 The blow mould has the following functions:

 Gives the hollow body its external future form.
 Cools down the hot article until it solidifies and can be further processed.

Attention: The use of ALS 1-4 moulds is only possible with these additional holes in
the bottom.

37

Bottom part

 The mould consists of two body parts

and a bottom part.

 The moulds are water cooled

(different temperatures body and
bottom).

 The use of the ALS 1.4 moulds is only

possible with conversion plates (use
always all 6 moulds otherwise water
will leak trough the plates!).

38
Basic knowledge - mould and equipment

Adapter plates (Mould plate)

Adapter plates

 The adapter plates hold all 6 moulds together. The plates and the moulds are
installed into the machine as a complete package.

Attention: Keep the plates always clean and check if the V bolts (centering bolts) are
installed correctly.

39
Basic knowledge - mould and equipment

V Bolts (centering bolts)

 The V bolts are used between the moulds and the adapter plates - to align the
moulds with the adapter plates.
 Use always two V bolts per side for each mould (positions of the V bolts can change
depending on the mould height).

Attention: They must not have any marks or damages – lubricate them before
installation.

Separation finger

 The separation fingers pick up the preforms from the separation curve and transport
them to the vacuum sleeves of the cycle balance.

 After the transport, the preform is ejected with a air blast and passed on to the
vacuum sleeves.

Attention: during the installation be careful that the fastening pin is all the way in.

44

 The vacuum sleeves take the preforms from the separation fingers and forward
them to the turning table.

 During the hand over they also turn the preforms 180°.

45

Finger for standard preforms

 The fingers transport the preforms from the cycle balance to the oven where the
attaching unit takes them.

 This type of fingers is used for preforms without orientation on the rotating table.
