Installation Program Capabilities

The CimatronE 10.0 installation program provides the following capabilities:
• Checks whether the computer (hardware and software) matches CimatronE demands.
• Recognizes the existing CimatronE versions on the computer (if any) and chooses the proper
installation scenario: new, upgrade or additional installation:
• Upgrade (overwrite) the E8.5 or E9.0 installation, which is the default and recommended mode.
• Side-by-side (additional) installation to the existing E8.5 or E9.0 version.
• Creates CimatronE software layout (folders and sub-folders) and copies files to it.
• Registers all components in Windows in two modes (DLL and TLB).
• Preserves relevant user-defined (newly created) and user-modified data files from previous
installations.
• Merges preference file (CimatronE.prf), attribute template files (modeler.exl and other), and
attributes translation file (AttrTrnMap.xml).
• Installs DotNet environment.
• Installs the Print to PDF driver.
• Adjusts CimatronE software to different computer environments:
• Network and standalone computer configuration.
• Other languages of operating systems: German, Japanese, etc.
• Previous versions of other Cimatron products (E8.5, E9.0).
• Checks user’s rights.
• Uninstalls CimatronE 10.0 software: removes all installed files from the disk, cleans registry, and
removes program group.
CimatronE 10.0 Installation Guide ⎪14

Installation Layout
• CimatronE 10.0 directory structure:
C:\Program Files\Cimatron\
CimatronE\
\Catalogs
\Data
\Program
\SourceData
\Workarea

C:\Cimatron_Documents

• The products’ name and path (C:\ Program Files\Cimatron\CimatronE) is set by default and
can be changed. However, the location of the following folders cannot be changed: Program,
SourceData, Workarea, Data, and Catalogs.
• During installation, the user can change the location of Cimatron_Documents, which is the
default folder for user files.
• The Catalogs directory will be created by default. However, the content of that folder depends on
the Cimatron Mold& Die Catalogs installation. Refer to the Cimatron Mold & Die Catalogs
installation guide, for further details.

Installation Scenarios
Several possible installation scenarios are supported, as follows:
1. Installing CimatronE 10.0 on a clean PC (new installation).
2. Installing CimatronE 10.0 side-by-side (SBS) with CimatronE 9.0 or CimatronE 8.5 or
(additional installation), by selecting the Additional Installation type from the installation
dialog.

Note: In order to switch between different versions of CimatronE correctly and safely, run
them using the CimatronE Launcher. This will enable the registration to be performed correctly
and automatically.
3. Installing CimatronE 10.0 on top of a previous CimatronE 9.0 or CimatronE 8.5 installation at the
same location (upgrade installation), by choosing the Upgrade mode from the installation dialog.

Note: The installation dialog appears without the destination folder Browse button.

Appendix A: Memory and Operating System

Recommendations
This section provides memory recommendations to run CimatronE 10.0 and the various factors to
consider when purchasing hardware and preferred operating systems (OS).
In general, a 64-bit OS allows better memory management when working above 2 Gb and, in addition,
better performance. When optional, always prefer a 64-bit OS over a 32-bit OS.
CimatronE 10.0 makes good use of Windows 7’s and Vista’s new internals. When optional, prefer
using these over XP.

Notes:
• Windows 7 and Vista require additional memory (RAM) compared with XP.
• The Swap Disc (virtual memory file) should be twice as big as the RAM.

Job Complexity Definition Recommended

Memory

Low Part models and active parts – Simple parts with less XP: 1 Gb
than 1000 faces.
Windows 7/
Assembly and MoldDesign – Assemblies of simple parts
Vista: 1.5 Gb
containing less than 100 components.
CAM – Simple parts and molds.

Medium Part models and active parts – Medium-size parts with XP: 2 Gb
less than 3000 faces.
Windows 7/
Assembly and MoldDesign – Assemblies of medium
Vista: 3 Gb
size parts containing up to 800 components.
CAM – Medium complexity parts and molds.

High Active parts (complex parts) – Containing more than 4 Gb

3000 faces.
