ABSTRAK

Latar belakang: Diabetes melitus adalah penyakit kronis dengan karakteristik hiperglikemia
yang membutuhkan perawatan kesehatan secara berkelanjutan dengan pengurangan beberapa
faktor risiko selain kontrol glukosa. Bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa [L.] Pers) mempunyai
dalam menangani beberapa penyakit, termasuk diabetes mellitus.
Tujuan: Untuk melihat efek ekstrak etanol batang tumbuhan bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa
[L.] Pers.) terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah tikus putih yang diabetes.
Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental murni dengan rancangan Pretest dan Post
test control. Tiga puluh tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) galur wistar dibagi menjadi enam
kelompok (masing-masing lima tikus). Lima kelompok yang diinduksi larutan Streptozotocin
(STZ) 60 mg/kgBB diantaranya K(-) (diberikan larutan Na-CMC 1%), K(+) (diberikan 50
mg/kgBB larutan glibenklamid 5 mg/kgBB), P1 (diberikan ekstrak etanol batang bungur
dengan dosis 250 mg/kgBB dalam larutan Na-CMC), P2 (diberikan ekstrak etanol batang
bungur dengan dosis 500 mg/kgBB dalam larutan Na-CMC) dan P3 (diberikan ekstrak etanol
batang bungur dengan dosis 1000 mg/kgBB dalam larutan Na-CMC). Satu kelompok (Kn)
tidak diinduksi Streptozotocin (STZ) hanya diberikan larutan Na-CMC 1%.
Hasil: Setelah 14 hari penelitian, kadar glukosa darah puasa kembali ke rentang normal dan
rerata kadar glukosa puasa antara kelompok (Kn, K(+), K(-), P1, P2 dan P3) berbeda signfikan
(p< 0.05).
Kesimpulan: Ekstrak etanol batang tumbuhan bungur mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa
darah puasa tikus putih dengan dosis 250 mg/kgBB sebagai dosis efektif.

ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic illness with characteristic of hyperglycemic that


requires continuous medical care with multifactorial risk-reduction strategies beyond glycemic
control. Bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa [L.] Pers) has benefits in treating various diseases,
including diabetes mellitus.
Objective: To determine the effect of ethanolic extract of bungur (Lagertroemia speciosa [L.]
Pers.) stems on decreasing blood glucose level in diabetec male white rats.
Methods: This study design was true experimental with randomized pretest and posttest
controls group design. Thirty male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain were divided
into six groups (each comprised five rats). Five groups which injected by Streptozotocin (STZ)
60 mg/kgBW were K(-) (fed by Na-CMC 1% solution only), K(+) (fed by 5 mg/kgBW glibenclamid
solution), P1 (fed by 250 mg/kgBW bungur stems extract in Na-CMC 1% solution), P2 (fed by
500 mg/kgBW bungur stems extract in Na-CMC 1% solution) and P3 (fed by 1000 mg/kgBW
bungur stems extract in Na-CMC 1% solution). One group (Kn) which not injected by
Streptozotocin (STZ) was fed by Na-CMC 1% solution only.
Results: After 14 days of research, fasting blood glucose level decreased to normal level and
the mean of fasting blood glucose level between groups (Kn, K(+), K(-), P1, P2 and P3) were
significant mean difference (p< 0.05).
Conclusion: Ethanol extract of Bungur stems can decrease the fasting blood glucose level of
white rats with dose of 250 mg/kgBW as the effective dose.
