Human Rights obligation of ICT businesses to SME’s in their supply chain

The movement to address human rights in supply chain came into existence in the 1990’s, when
several supply chains of multinational in developing countries were exposed for human rights
violation. In 2001, the United Nation Global Compact was launched as a call to business to align their
operations and strategies in the area of human rights, labour, and the environment to support UN
goals (AHRC; ACCSR; GCNA, 2015). It is a mission jam-packed with challenges for business to manages
operations in their supply chain scattered around the globe. This paper outlines the serious
conundrum encountered by ICT businesses to SME’s in managing human rights in their supply chain,
and suggest a modification of business model and implement strict rules with this, better
implementation of the Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR). The paper is divided into following
sections; the first section which deals with problems in managing human rights supply chain which
include the following: Firstly, underage, and bonded labour and Secondly, the hazardous working
environment. Nevertheless, in the second part, the paper encapsulates the countermeasure to
overcome these affairs and shield the employees of their supply chain network from workplace agony.
Finally, the conclusion covers obligations of human rights for businesses. These problems in
maintaining the human rights activities within the supply chain need to be resolve for protecting the
human rights at the workplace.

The rise in the underage, and bonded labour, in business word, has created a huge concern for
maintaining the human rights in the supply chain.

Moreover, a significant number of incidents of human rights infringement has been discerned in
business with the hazardous working environment provided to workers in the supply chain of
multinationals is a situation of grave concern.

The solution to overpower the human right abuse is to bring changes to practices to the business
model and implement strict laws.

The optimum solution to deal with human rights violations in the supply chain of businesses is to
follow strict principles of CSR successfully.

These implementations in the supply chain of the multinational ICT business and SME’s will fetch
noteworthy satisfaction to the employees as well as bring constructive amplification to the brand
image in the business ecosphere.
