LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

(POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS)

I. Objective

1. To demonstrate understanding of the key concepts of polynomials

functions;
2. To illustrate polynomial equations;
3. To perform long division on polynomial functions.

II. Subject Matter

The concept of polynomial functions and its application in problem-

solving (long division).

Reference: Teacher’s Guide Pages 88-107

Learner’s Materials Pages 106-123
Advance Algebra, Trigonometry and Statistics by Sledad Jose-
Dilao et.al.

Materials: Books, projector, laptop, Manila paper, pentel pen, calculator.

III. Procedure

A. Lecture
i. Motivation

What do you know about polynomial functions?

What is a divisor?

What is a quotient?

[Sample equation: Divide (x2-4x+3) by (x-3)]

Solution = (x-3) (x-1)

x-3

= x-1

ii. Activity Proper

(Divide the class into 4 groups. Conduct a game/contest-
type activity. Give 3 questions for the 4 groups to answer.
The first group to write the correct answer in a Manila
paper and present it in front gets the extra points/grade for
oral recitation)

Questions/Problems:

1. What is the quotient when x2- 25 is divided by

x-5?
2. Divide (2x2+5x-23) by (x+5)
3. 7x2+x-8
x-1

B. Analysis/Abstraction:

What did you learn from the activity?

C. Application:

What is the purpose of knowing polynomial functions?

How is it useful to real-life situation?

IV. Evaluation
Give short quiz composed of at least 5 problems.
a. Divide (5x2+14x-24) by (x+4)
b. Divide (2x4-4x3-5x2+2x-3) by (2x2+1)
c. Divide (x3-4x2+2x+5) by (x-2)
d. Divide (2x3+4x2-5) by (x+3)
e. Divide (4x3-2x2-3) by (2x2-1)

V. Assignment
Study the next topic.
