● Students will consider the humanitarian issues within ​A Raisin in the Sun
○ This means that students will read and reflect with a partner upon what
can affect this situation negatively or positively.
● Students will think critically about their own passions toward other sustainable
global goals.
○ This means students will discuss and evaluate their passions toward global
goals in small groups.

Language Objective:
● Students will consider the differences of dialect between the Younger family and
those in the neighborhood.
○ This means that students will use dialogue from the play in order to see
agency in their reflections.

Standard(s):
11.4.2 Complex situations require critical thinking and across multiple disciplines
c. Determine the extent into which they entered empathetically into competing
points of view.

Materials/Resources​:
● A Raisin in the Sun
● Journal

Learning Activities​:

Initiation​: Reading pages 14-41 (30 mins)


● Read Along
○ Those who did not have parts yesterday should try to read a part today
○ If not reading aloud, follow along

Lesson Development​: (15 mins)


● Mingle Party (17 global goals)
○ Students will spend 3 mins, and then switch 5 times, in a station about one
topic of their choosing
○ Students will discuss the questions at the station and why they are
interested in this topic?

Closure​: (2-4 mins)


● STOP IN YOUR MINGLE
○ Students: Now, look at your group. If this is not the topic you ​really​ want
to study this unit, then you have 4 minutes to decide on a topic. You
should discuss what you already know about this sustainable for the
remainder of class after I have all of your names and your topic.

Homework:
Students:
I will put you and your group members into a group discussion online, and I want
to see at least four responses from each member (if you would like to keep
discussing you may!). You and your group will need to discuss some these
questions:
1. Why do you like this topic? Do you have a passion for this goal?
2. What do you know so far? What have you heard about this goal? i.e.
organizations, movements, problems
3. Who is affected by the issues surrounding this sustainable goal?
4. Who are the stakeholders?

Individuals Needing Differentiated Instruction​:


● Students will be given information about the sustainable goals if they would like
to know more before joining a discussion.
● Students will have sentence starters for mingle
