Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in
your classroom: Students will observe their environment. Students will record data in the
form of photos and drawings. They will look for patterns of seasonal change and make
connections between sunlight and seasons. They will learn how changes in the
environment might affect plants and animals. Students will present their research at the
end of the project.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a
classroom? An interactive whiteboard to display the website and class data. Laptops for each
student to do individual research.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them
may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often
beyond their school: Students can use research created by other students to do
their own research. Students are also publishing their own work for others to
use.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original data and or
producing original products as a result of engaging in the project): Students are
collecting their own data about their environment. This will make the
learning experience more meaningful and engaging to the student.
c. Higher-order thinking: Students are going beyond remembering and
understanding the content. They are applying what they learned to real
world situations, analyzing and evaluating their data, and creating a
presentation.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their
product: Students will publish their work on Journey North for others to see
and use. Other students can learn from their work.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why? This
learning activity reaches level 6 for LoTI. By completing this project students are applying what
they learned in class as well as analyzing and evaluating their data. The final product of this
lesson is for them to create a presentation.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your district’s
Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies? I will learn about the school’s policies and make

sure my lesson aligns. I will inform administrators and parents about the project and how it will
benefit students. I will also share with them my plan to protect students online. Any
collaboration with other users will be monitored. No photos of the students or personal
information will be shared online.
